Lacking the c stick?

When I played diddy in brawl, I was always reliant of the c stick. Have any of you guys played diddy on the 3ds? If so, does he still play well without the c stick?

Item game and item tech is harder without c stick, that's the main thing. Retreating and spacing aerials are also harder, but that goes for most characters.
