Event - Apex 2015 ermagerd i'm a newb

So I've never been to one of these events, but I'd really like to go to apex 2014, and any information would be super appreciated.
is it open to the public?
does it cost money to just sit and watch?
how would I go about registering for a tourney?
will there be GC/Wii's open for free play to allow me to get the crap beat out of me?

I have no clue what I'm doing, and if at least one person can give me some info, I'd love it.
Also if there's a board dedicated to answering these kinds of questions, and I'm just oblivious, send me a link.

Good to see someone new go to such a big tournament! I just want to say welcome to the scene!

1. yes, this tournament is open to the public.
2. Yes, it does. but it usually costs like $10. And that's for the whole day.
3. You can either register online, or just show up at the door with money in hand.
4. There will be plenty of setups for you to play with players. And there will be a lot of them, guaranteed!

I am as new as the OP but I have buddies that have been around and they're helpful!

Use the smashboards to find some smashers that are experienced, go to local tournaments with them, or to meet them.

Im in MD/VA and the local thing here is SypherPheonix's.
