Can you replicate this weird Ike move?

I was using Ike right now and I think I did a Nair, which was countered by Greninja's Down-B.

Somehow Greninja ended up flying way into the air (almost vertically) and I took no damage.

Can someone replicate this? Glitch or...?

Greninja can angle Substitute's attack in any direction; up is usually preferred, as it does the most damage and KOs around 80%.

Sounds like Substitute simply whiffed.
