Bartz
Bartz as he appears in Dissidia 012 in his Freelancer outfit in EX mode.
One of the few third-party companies I would welcome into Smash is Square Enix. They have enough history with Nintendo for me to consider a fighter for DLC in the Smash Ballot. This history dates back into the NES/Famicom days up to the present with the 3DS handheld.![](http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110216233101/finalfantasy/images/9/99/Bartz-ThirdEXMode.png)
Bartz as he appears in Dissidia 012 in his Freelancer outfit in EX mode.
I chose Bartz from Final Fantasy V as my suggestion. He has appeared on Nintendo platforms (both his game and spin-offs). I see a huge potential in his moveset in regards to the Job System in Final Fantasy V and his Mime role in Dissidia and if done right, he can be a unique entry for Smash for Wii U and 3DS.
Bartz's Nintendo history was started in 1992 in Japan by Final Fantasy V being released for the first time on Nintendo's Super Famicom. His western debut did not come on the Super Nintendo (it was on Playstation in a bundle), but an enhanced port did release on the Game Boy Advance as Final Fantasy V Advance. His latest Nintendo appearance is in the Theatrhythm franchise on the 3DS where Bartz is a playable character from Final Fantasy V.
Bartz's powers and abilities come from the crystal shards containing the jobs of the warriors and the knowledge from them, skills purchased or found, summons and animals found and/or at his call that learn to use, and weapons he can wield (all relating to the unique application of the iconic Job System in his game with jobs like default Freelancer from the start, Black Mage, White Mage, Thief, Knight, Mime which was acquired from Gogo by doing nothing and never running away, and much more.) Bartz is multi-talented because of this. He will not lack a moveset.
For costumes ideas, he could stick to his classic Freelancer outfit based on his sprite in Final Fantasy V or his more modern look found in Dissidia and Theatrhythm. I prefer the classic Freelancer look. His freelancer look and hair can be color swapped to refer to other Final Fantasy characters (Pink for Lenna's sprite hair and Lightning, yellow/blond for Krile's sprite hair and any blond haired protagonist, etc.)
For music, I chose 6 tracks to represent our multi-talented hero, 6 more from the other titles for stage music and victory music
Final Fantasy V
- Four Warriors of Dawn (a.k.a The Dawn Warriors)
- Clash On the Big Bridge (a.k.a Battle On the Big Bridge) [Gilgamesh's Theme]
- The Battle (a.k.a Battle 1) [normal battle]
- The Fierce Battle (a.k.a Battle 2) [Regular boss]
- The Final Battle (a.k.a The Last Battle) [against Exdeath]
- A Final Fantasy V medley
- Final Fantasy opening theme (series)
- Battle Against the Four Fiends (Final Fantasy IV)
- Chocobo Theme (series)
- Terra's Theme (Final Fantasy VI)
- Dissdia [Menu] (Dissdia Final Fantasy[2008])
- Battle (Final Fantasy)
For moveset purposes, he could stick to being Mime or a Freelancer. The possibilities are numerous from here. Here is a sample that attempts to reference his game's application of the Job System.
Specials
Up Special: Spear Throw; Throws a spear downward that can be deflected, pocketed, etc. Bartz is boosted upward but is left in a helpless state.
Neutral Special: Aeroga; Sends a cutting wind ball with a straight pathway. Can be deflected, pocketed, etc.
Side Special: Blizzaga sword; Enchants a sword with ice and swipes forward once. Successful hit damages and freezes target.
Down Special: Charge; The next attack is slightly boosted. The boost ends on performing next attack, hit or miss. Must wait 15 seconds before next charge.
Throws
Attack: Punches the foe while held
Up: Bartz jumps up and slams the foe down.
Back: Uses a suplex
Foward: A quick Thunder strikes foe forward.
Down: Gravity holds the foe down for a short time with damage before the foe is freed and flies upward.
Aerials
Neutral: Bartz kicks outward. Nothing special.
Forward: Bartz swipes with an axe.
Back: Bartz uses a Firaga burst backwards with a rod.
Down: A quick sword thrust downward. Meteors at the tip.
Up; Bartz twirls a spear upwards
Ground
Neutral: Bartz punches with each button press up to three times. No infinite.
Down tilt: Bartz sweeps with a staff as he crouches.
Side tilt: Bartz uses a kick.
Up tilt: Bartz swipes a sword upward.
Down Smash: Uses Quake with a rod to shake a small area around Bartz.
Side Smash: Bartz uses Firaga (without a rod/staff) to create a burst of flame that can't be deflected.
Up Smash: Thrusts a spear upward.
Running: A flying kick in the manner of the Monk's Kick technique.

For a Final Smash, Bartz has a few options:
- He could use a a spell to stun the foes and call his trusty chocobo friend Boco(Boko in some translations) and trample on foes. This works similar to Capt. Falcon and Duck Hunt's Final Smashes. This fails if no target gets stunned
- He could rush in with the speed of a Thief to meet a single target(similar to Marth), hitting the caught target with multi-hitting Holy from White Mage, the same with Flare from the Black Mage, and finishes the Final Smash with a Warrior class based sword strike (referring to the first Final Fantasy). The Final Smash fails if Bartz doesn't meet a target with his Thief's speed. [This is my preferred option and a true Limit Break.]
- He could call an iconic summon from the Final Fantasy franchise. The summon would use their associated technique. Good picks would be an attacking type of summon (referring to the Caller/Summoner)

Most people when thinking of a Square Enix representative would suggest Chrono from Chrono Trigger, a character from Bravely Default, and/or a Black Mage, a chocobo, Gilgamesh, or a moogle from Final Fantasy. My suggestion did not include these guys.
Instead, I chose Bartz from Final Fantasy V as my suggestion. Bartz may not be as super iconic as Cloud, Sephiroth, or Lightning, but he has appeared on Nintendo platforms (both his game and spin-offs). I see a huge potential in his moveset in regards to the Job System in Final Fantasy V and his Mime role in Dissidia and if done right, he can be a unique entry for Smash for Wii U and 3DS.
First, costumes ideas. He could stick to his classic Freelancer outfit based on his sprite in Final Fantasy V or his more modern Mime look found in Dissidia and Theatrhythm. Bartz's Final Smash can be one of the following, a combination of job techniques in a flurry of attacks or he can ride Boko, Bartz's chocobo friend, and trample foes similar to Captain Falcon or Duck Hunt's Final Smash.
Does anyone think Bartz is a good suggestion for or fits in Smash for Wii U and 3DS?
