Smash Cadet
Platteville Smash Bros., the Smash Bros. division of the Platteville Gaming Association, will be hosting singles tournaments for both Super Smash Bros. (N64) and Project M, as well as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U doubles, on Saturday, April 18th.
Facebook thread: https://www.facebook.com/events/1626846467548018/
There are no fees to enter the tournaments. Prizes are bragging rights and eternal glory.
There will be round robin pools for Project M, bracket pools for Smash 64, and a double elimination bracket for Wii U doubles. We will attempt to seed players so that no pool is far more difficult than others, as well as so that players from the same area don't play each other.
Please be at the event and ready before the tournament starts. Sign-ups and check-in will close at 1:00 PM, and if you come after that time, you will not be allowed to participate.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mitchell Meerman at meermanm@uwplatt.edu.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
11:00 AM: Signups open. This time will depend on when the venue we have available will open.
1:00 PM: Signups close, singles brackets begin.
4:00-5:00 PM: Pools for both games end, final singles brackets begin.
6:30-8:00 PM: Singles brackets end, doubles bracket begins.
8:30-10:00 PM: Doubles bracket ends; tournament ends.
10:00 PM: Venue closes. Everything must be cleared from the room by that time.
If you are playing in both tournaments, we will attempt to keep your pools from running at the same time. However, if you are called to play in both simultaneously, PLEASE communicate with your game's tournament organizer (TO).
Head TO: Meerkat
Smash 64 TO: Torizo
Project M TO: QTIP
VENUE RULES:
• Please obey all event staff, including our tournament organizers as well as hall staff.
• Do not interfere with players during tournament sets, including excessive heckling and loud noises. You will be warned for the first offense and disqualified for the second. Please don't interrupt the announcers for our streams either.
GAME RULES:
All rules subject to change.
All games:
• All items individually set to off with frequency of none.
• Pausing set to be disabled if possible.
• Excessive stalling (past 300%) is banned.
• If a game times out, the winner is determined by which player has the most stocks remaining, then the least percentage. If there is a stock and percentage tie, a one-stock, three minute match will be played to break the tie.
• All sets are best of three with the exception of Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals, which will be best of five.
• After the first game, the stage will be selected, the winner will pick their character, then the loser will pick their character.
• The losing player of the previous match may choose to change their controller port after character selection.
• You have five minutes to report to your match or you WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
• Do not play friendlies during the tournament except on designated setups during designated times.
• Gentleman's Clause: If both players agree to it, they may play any stage. This clause CANNOT be used to change the length of a set or any other established rules. Breaking this rule will result in disqualification of BOTH/ALL PLAYERS. If another player asks you to break this rule, please report it to a TO immediately.
• Finals matches only: You cannot pick the last stage that you won on, unless agreed upon by both players. (Modified Dave's Stupid Rule)
• Tie Rule: In the event of a tie, the players will play a one stock match. If the game is Project M or Smash Wii U, the timer will be set to four minutes.
Super Smash Bros. (N64):
• Set to five stocks, no timer.
• No initial stage strike or counterpick stage bans.
• Initial ports will be 2 and 4.
• Starter stage: Dream Land.
• Counterpick stages: Kongo Jungle, Peach's Castle. These stages will only be selectable after the first match.
• Players may request that Black Donkey Kong (→C), Dark Samus (↓C), and Dark Falcon (→C) not be used if Kongo Jungle is the stage.
Project M:
• Set to four stocks and eight minutes.
• First stage strike is 1-2-2-1.
• Selection of initial stage striking will go by rock-paper-scissors. The winner chooses between selecting their initial controller port or having second stage strike.
• The winner of the previous match (after the first) will get three stage bans.
• Finals matches only: There are no stage bans after the initial match.
• Starter stages: Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville, Pokémon Stadium 2, Dream Land (N64), Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi's Story (Melee).
• Counterpick stages: Yoshi's Island (Brawl), Pokémon Stadium (1), Lylat Cruise, WarioWare, Green Hill Zone, Norfair. These stages will only be selectable after the first match.
• Input buffer is disabled.
• Playing as Giga Bowser is banned.
• In the event of a timeout, the winner is determined by most stocks, then by lowest percent. If both are still even, the game is considered a tie and the Tie Rule will go into effect (see above).
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Doubles):
• Set to three stocks and eight minutes.
• First stage strike is 1-2-1.
