I was browsing around the boards for some more insight and read this thread.

What would be some of Kirby's best Burst Range options? They probably wouldn't be very far huh? :ohwell: At a standstill it would probably be his tilts but in motion I'd say a quick RAR approach would be his longest Burst Range option. Iunno thoughts?

Ftilt would fit in there very well, I think. It's a fantastic spacing tool.

I also recently learned that Fair sucks compared to what I thought it was. It's easily punishable if you're shorthopping it, since there's a period at the end where you can't do anything. Worse, some characters can apparently spotdodge all three hits ._.

Nah, you can't use ftilt as an effective footsie (burst range option, as they call it there). It's too slow and will get you punished. Unless you're purposefully throwing it out for your opponent to come after you as a mindgame, you should just stick to RAR bairs and utilts to bait a reaction from an opponent.

if you space it like a boss, few characters have the ability to punish it.
ftilt has massive range. (also it clashes with kirby's fsmash, little tidbit of info for you)

Sad thing is that it's slow enough for your opponent to realize what's going on. Utilt is way too fast for the opponent to react properly to it, and RAR bair is extremely safe. Ftilt takes longer than utilt, and you're stationary meanwhile, so if they have disjoints/items/projectiles, you're a sitting duck, and then their own footsies worked perfectly (made you do a move you thought was safe and punished you).

F-tilt is perfectly usable as a "Burst Range" option, but Kewkky isn't exactly wrong when he says it's too slow. The reason is because U-tilt is just that much more awesome of a Burst Range attack since Kirby's feet are invincible with the U-tilt whereas they are not with the F-tilt. U-tilt also hits one frame faster than F-tilt.

The thing is that fights are not so much a black & white situation, there's a lot of shades of gray. For instance, if your opponent lands in front of Kirby you can always turn around (+1 frame) and then U-tilt (+4 frames) and hit on frame 5. You can also F-tilt with the same effective timing with the additional advantage of having a greater amount of horizontal reach with the F-tilt and the option to angle the tilt up or down. The same goes for using a grab since that hits on frame 5.

Note that this type of option is not available if the opponent moves behind Kirby - it's less effective to go for a F-tilt or Grab than it is to simply send out a precision U-tilt since the F-tilt or Grab will be landing frame 6+ where as the U-tilt will hit behind Kirby on frame 4+. The 'gray area' here is if you prefer to send the opponent horizontal instead of vertical, need to land a grab, etc.

This area of strategy is a lot of fun because it keeps you on your toes, makes you have to respond quickly and perfectly, and gives the game that fast-paced action.

Of course, there's always a moment when the other tilts, smashes, aerials and even grabs will work better than utilt or bair. But the majority of the time, when you're trying to stay safe while at the same time getting in and out of your opponents' maximum attack range to bait an option, bair and utilt end up being your best options. Once your opponent starts expecting it and trying to bait YOU into doing something, that's when the other attacks start shining. But like I said, the majority of the time utilt and bair end up being your best bet.

It's not so much as ftilt being one frame slower to hit than utilt, it's more of how long ftilt takes to end before you can finally move again. Utilt is much faster than ftilt so you can throw one or two out and still feel relatively safe. Bair is simply because it's our best aerial in a lot of scenarios, you throw it out while retreating and it's very difficult to react to. It's also good to punish a whiffed option that your opponent made because you tricked him into believing you were going to stay inside their maximum range.

This is how I play against Diddies and, recently thanks to my roommate, Olimar. I also play like this against Snake and MK, space everything and just bait. Playing footsies/using your burst range/baiting and punishing all day (they all mean the same thing, basically), awwww yeaaahhh.

I dunno but, when it's Kirby in the picture instead of ponies, it makes it that much better. I'd totally watch the show if it was about Kirbies instead. Just saying.

Well yeah, the attacks were from a different character. If pit shot it upwards when Kirby did it's uthrow, Kirby would die. If kirbby shot it's own arrow and did a uthrow, the opponent would die.


So if snake was holding a grenade and Kirby did a uthrow, snake would die. But does it depend? I was guessing it was because of using port 4, which gives your opponent a knockback instead of you.

What is it? Did I confuse you? Well, it happens a lot.

Controller port 4 is recommended when your opponent is a snake ditto.
Actually, I use that port every time.

Vinyl., you need the 4th port when fighting Snake because, different than Pit's arrow which hits the opponent only, when the grenade explodes, both you and Snake get hit. When using Pit's arrow, since it's not hitting you, you're not receiving knockback, which is what activates the star KO animation. ;)

I just posted it cuz I never thought about that stuff. versat13's channel is full of amazing amazingness.

Kewkky i have send you a message with ssbb matches.
They are from my sd kart i dont really know how you can look the matches.
You will see all Combos when you look the matches more than 1-2 time.
There are another chars too.

Pfft Twinkie, I did something like that with Mez waaaay back in the day when we teamed up for a tourney. He was Pikachu and I was Kirby. I uthrow'd someone thinking on the spot, he thundered, and the opponent died at 0% with me surviving. HELL YEAH! I just never thought about being able to do an omnigay with Pit's arrows since it's so unexpected.


@MoGi: I have your replays and will watch them on my Wii, but I don't have video uploading hardware or software. I thought you were going to show me some videos on YouTube already uploaded. I'll see what I can do about them.

Ah, man... I love watching old videos. Nostalgia and thoughts of "man I used to suck so bad" circle through my mind. :)

Hell yeah. Either Kirby sucks and has stagnated, or we boosted his metagame far too fast for our own good. :c

I think it's neither, we just don't have much tourney participation. I heard that in other Navy bases I don't NEED to take someone else with me if I want to go off-base... At those times I am going to MANDATORILY go to as many tournaments as I possibly can. I'll be an E-4 in the Navy in june! If at that rank I can deviate from that policy, and if I get shore duty (stay on a base and no getting on ships) for my first duty station, I will be GOLDEN.

All I'll be facing are bats with wings, Pluckermin, and stealth specialist when I go to Japan since those 3 are real heavy over there. XD

Heh, Kewkky if you have replays I can work on them for ya. I'll help out a sailor. Just don't give me a whole tournament set like one guy did and that took forever. XD
