Discussions regarding the organization of smashfests will follow.

Update (1/3/2013):

As of right now actually making these regular seems to be challenge, at least on the weekend. It seems like the community is going nuts and there's a tournament every single weekend.

To add some stability I think I'll be moving our venue to Arcade Legacy's Thursday fight nights. It's a weekly gathering of fighting game players. Smash is not well-represented there, but it certainly will be if we start going. Entry is $5. You can find all the information you need right here:

http://arcadelegacyohio.com/

I'll plan on being there on January 9th around 6PM until around midnight or whenever they close. Hope to see you all there!

You could have asked first! :p

But yeah, cool by me. I have like 5 TVs here (CRT), just FYI.

Hey guys, I'm super hyped to be meeting you all in two weeks :). Sorry to bother people though, but unfortunately I'll need a ride to and from the Smashfest; even though I'll be free for a day or so, I'm in Cincinnati for family business and won't have a car. I'll be staying in Forest Park, pretty close to I275. If someone would be able to give me a ride there and back, I'd greatly appreciate it (and help pay for gas)!

Just a bit of a geography lesson: Kentucky borders Ohio. This particular address is actually like 15 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. :O

Happy to oblige, of course.

SoulPech, myself and maybe Carls will try to come down. We'll see about Shenanagans as well. I'll check to see if Pech can spot you for a ride, metroid.

I'm looking forward to playing you!

Dude, it'd be sick if you can get people to come down. I've made arrangements to get a ride from Doctor X, but if you're going to swing by then I'm sure he wouldn't mind being saved a trip.

Oh, if you are getting a ride from him then that simplifies things. We may be coming down a little later, since Carls gets off at 4 pm from work... but if we don't go and get him, we'll come down around 2 (since Cincinnati is 2 hours away)

Lol I'm cool with whatever, guys. Just let me know.

Forest Park is not *exacty* on your way, though. I-71 comes down through the complete opposite side of town. You'd probably add at least 40 minutes to your trip. :\

Thanks for coming everyone. I'll continue to use this thread to organize should events like this one happen again.

Next time we'll be a little less ambitious with the house tournament. Round robins take a long time with only 3 setups. >.<

Or just have people bring Wiis and SD cards. :B

I would've brought my Wii if I remembered that OS had so many CRTs =/. Thanks for hosting, Doctor X and Overswarm, it was a pleasure to finally meet and play you guys along with the rest of the OH scene!

Iron Man isn't a round robin format, we just used it in a round robin format.

You guys got bodied.
A lot of the players at the Smashfest were either just picking up PM or don't take PM seriously.

For what it's worth, I had a lot of fun playing everyone, but I had even more fun just hanging out and meeting people. Thanks guys :).

I'm thinking we'll want to do another smashfest or two between now and Nerd Rage, though I think these will have an additional purpose. I'd like to hold them at Arcade Legacy-- preferably on the weekend when lots of locals will be there for other games-- so that we can get some exposure for Project M, promote the Nerd Rage tournament, and hopefully give some people the chance to see why we love this game so much.

I know we smashers are generally resistant to the idea of paying money to play at a venue when we don't really have to, but with so many passionate gamers hanging out at this particular paid venue I feel the exposure could really be worth it, especially considering the hype Evo generated for the smash series among people who usually couldn't care less.

I've spoken with Jesse and he's offered to save us some space for setups and give entry discounts to people who go through me. If we feel like doing a small tournament there, he's also offered the possibility of a (probably non-cash) prize for the winner-- like a t-shirt or store credit or somesuch.

At this point it seems we'll do the first one this weekend, either Friday night (August 2nd) or Saturday (August 3rd). Do we have any preferences on which so I can let Jesse know?

I know I'm not gonna go to AL. Too far and I'm not gonna pay for a smashfest.

I'm probably good with either date, but would prefer Saturday so we could start earlier. I'll also have to get a ride but it shouldn't be too hard - I'll ask people I know who live by me. Also, how much do you think it will cost to go?

*ahem* forgetting someone.... Jeeze it seems like everyone forgets about poor ol' Alfa 。゜(`Д´)゜。

You did not have any sort of indication of going with us to Cincinnati before, that's why I ruled you out. I may be doing some wedding stuff this weekend instead of going, even though this could be good prep for two weeks from now.

We'll see.

OK so it looks like the 3rd will be our best bet. I'll also plan on doing another one the following Saturday (the 10th) that way we get maximum prep time for the tournament and so people who find the 3rd too short-notice can still make it at some point.

I've spoken with Jesse and he's agreed to entry for $5 a head. Just tell him you're here for smash when you get there and he'll give you the discount. This is half the usual rate and gives you access to all of the other games at the arcade as well, which is pretty super.

I'll update the OP with full details after work tomorrow.

K, update has been made.

Let me know if you plan on going so I know what to expect. I may or may not bother making a FB event for this one. >.<

Since I'm 100% new to the competitive scene, but I want to go to all three events for tips and friendlies, I've decided to drop out of the tournaments for Nerd Rage. Super tight on money, hopefully I get a part-time job this year so I won't have to worry about cash!
