Hey guys!

We just wanted to inform you of a 1 v 1 SSBB tournament that will be taking place on Nov 5, 2011 (Saturday) at the University of North Texas located in Denton, Texas.

We will provide all of the necessary equipment needed for the tournament. However, players can bring their own controllers if they choose to do so.

Spectators can come and watch for free. There will be free beverages for all who attend.

We ended up going with the unity rule set because we believe they will make for a much more entertaining tournament.

We feel that endless chain grabbing deteriorates the gameplay experience and felt that the 3 consecutive chain grab limit is a more balanced approach. However, if both players mutually agree upon custom settings they can opt to use those settings instead of the tournament rule set, so long as matches don't last longer than 8 minutes each.

We will edit the gameplay rules to reflect this option.

The matches wont last longer than 8 minutes because of the timer unless they both agree to play without a timer for whatever reason. The 3 consecutive chaingrab is a very strange rule which I have only seen once before and I hope you reconsider this rule. Ice Climbers heavily rely on consecutive chaingrabs and many other characters rely on consecutive chaingrabs for certain matchups.

We weren't comfortable with the idea of banning an entire character from the game. Metaknight is obviously a top tier character, but when looking at the other SSBB tournament scenes we've seen that he isn't dominant in other regions. Looking at the top players in Europe and Japan, we felt as though Metaknight can be beaten. We'd like to encourage the meta game to change so that no character requires a ban, nor does one character dominate the top of the charts.

So far as us not using the "standard" rule set, we've elected not to do so because we are a separate entity. Much of our rule set mirrors that of the Unity rule set, because we used it as a guide to create our own rule set. We went line by line through the Unity rule set and made alterations to fit the direction we hope the players will enjoy. Obviously, our rule set is subject to change, and we will change it if we see the gamers requesting the change.

A lot of people have shown an interest in seeing a tournament for melee as well. After the Nov 5th event, we will try to come up with a solution that will allow us to host tournaments for both games in a fun an efficient manner.

its good that MK isn't banned just because people haven't learned how to play vs certain characters. Although I think ice climbers chain grab is really skillful... HUR DUR DONT GET GRABBED!! DUR!
