I have started the framework for this and put everyone who has expressed interest in the list.
You can find it here: http://students.uww.edu/dullikm13/finder.txt
Add your info if you haven't already.

I was lounging around in the Ness specific area tonight and saw that they had a Ness finder. And I said to myself, "why isn't there a general smasher finder?"
I am aware of the smasher by region but that has become a "FAILURE"(-announcer)
So I propose that this thread become like the Ness finder thread. You post, in order please, your state, city, character and range(how far you'd drive for casual smash and, seperated by a slash, your tourney range, all in hours.)
Example: Wisconsin, Madison, Young Link, 1/4.
so this means that I live in Madison Wisconsin, play Young Link and would drive an hour for casual smash but four hours for a tournament.
Why do this? because hopefully people who are new and don't know everyone's address and e-mails (CORY[just playin{*high five*}]) will be able to find someone and play, and also people starting tourneys that are small can see whether or not they can get a lot of people.
Case in point: last year me and Fasting held a tourney and we thought nobody lived nearby so we expected 5 people (our crew) but surprisingly we got 20-25. Result was an insufficent venue and a lack luster smash tourney.
Will this work better than smasher by region? Hopefully. there are people browsing this forum that, at the request of the tourney host, will compile a list of the 60+ people going to said tourney. So if the thread is stickied and people respond then me or someone else can compile a downloadable database.
Well now that I have contributed, what I think is a good idea, to the boards for the first time I will impose one rule which I will star so that people read at least that part of this seemingly long thread.
method: This is very easy and after talking to aho here is the extremely easy way this will happen.
1) Joe smasher gets webspace.
2) make a sorted list of smashers
3) link the boards to it
4) billy smasher goes there and presses 'Ctrl' and 'F' at the same time on his "keyboard" and does a search.
5) He finds another scrub and plays smash with him.
6) goes back to the boards and complains about Joe's Marth
7) the cycle of smash continues for generations to come.
