No, really. If you have a widescreen television, Brawl won’t look like crap on your TV. Sakurai was kind enough to implement Wide Screen Support for Brawl as is being done with most Wii games. Let’s delve into the few specifics Sakurai left us.
<p align="center"><strong>&lt;Standard&gt;</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various15_071127a-l.jpg" alt="Standard" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /><!--more--></p>
<p align="center"><strong> &lt;Widescreen&gt;</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various15_071127b-l.jpg" alt="Widescreen" align="middle" border="0" height="248" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">(Maybe it is just me, but did Mario and Snake just switch spawning points?)</p>
Ok, according to Sakurai, the points in the game in which you KO are still the same, so no configurations gains or loses an advantage from this setup. It is good to see Sakurai took this into account because I can tell from personal experience that a wide screen Melee match was not pleasant to look at.

Apparently Sakurai was nice enough to also make those who don’t understand that 4:3 and 16:9 designate your screen size by making a specific picture for each ratio. You only have two to choose from so it should be pretty straight forward, pick the one that meets the shape of your TV.
<p align="center"> <img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/various15_071127c-l.jpg" alt="Widescreen Support" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
Sakurai was nice enough to also throw some music our way (<a href="http://smashboards.com/blog/podpress_trac/web/2644/0/dk.mp3">Donkey Kong</a>) and take us back in time to the days when Hirokazu Tanaka would compose some of our beloved melodies such as those from Kid Icarus and Metroid. This composer was adding onto the team without public notice. Tanaka is well known for his unique music that he brought to Nintendo. This man was so passionate about getting his music right for games that he wrote assembly programming code to help further his own composition back in the days when he composed for games on the Famicom. Tanaka, unlike his rivals at the time, got his inspirations from wanting to give the games a more atmospheric background than to cater to crowds looking for a catchy tune in the game, which incidentally, still ended up being catchy. I hope all Smashers welcome this wonderful musician into our home when Brawl goes in our Wii. Here’s to Tanaka!

im glad they can keep pumping these out but i gotta tell u im expecting like 20 staDIUM options, custom downloads for event matches at least 12 everymonth with 4 by actual players, like 5 single player options like dramatic battle ((team all star)) only tied to one 300 hp set

and i'd hope none of that ^^^^^^^ is announced :-D

I was about to complain about how all I have is a Wii and a PS3, this doesn't do anything for me,

BUT- the remixed DK theme makes up for it :)

just remember that not every non-regular brawl mode is a single player mode.
Like home-run and Subspace Emissary.

We need to come up with a better name for those.

The DK track was a great addition!! Give us more retro mixes Tanaka - I'm counting on you to have a retro mix for every old-school game represented in Brawl!

As for widescreen support... well, that'll benefit me in the long-run - I don't have a widescreen TV in my living room either. =X

**** near useless TV Widescreen update.

But wow, hearing that DK music made a grin appear on my face.

Wasn't enough to redeem the update after it, but it was still awesome...

With widescreen TVs becoming more common, it was a smart decision to have a widescreen setting. After all, many DVDs had that capability.

They still haven't announced Sonic's Final Smash! That day is gonna suck so bad...

As for FS or WS, I only have a FS TV at the moment. Hopefully I can finally get some widescreen on Boxing day. As for the music, it's freaking awesome. I wonder what stage it will be with? I mean, original Donkey Kong music isn't exactly appropriate for any DK stage, is it?

*thinks back to Balloon Fighter music on Ice Climbers stage* Never mind...

Probably rumble falls since you are climping up and there's ladders like in the original DK.

DK music sucked, like all the other music that's been released so far. They have no idea what they're doing.

He is the mainstay who has built Nintendo sound since the days of Game & Watch: Hirokazu Tanaka.

He wasn’t included on the list of musicians until now, but he secretly joined the fray!

It directly says that Hirokazu Tanaka has joined Brawl. I predict that you will unlock him as a playable character after you collect all Music CDs.

The sad thing is that i've read worse dojo update - derived theories in this forum.

I found this update unnecessary; after all, I probably could have figured it out for myself when the game was eventually released.

But whatever. Usually in these cases, the music makes up for it, but I don't know...

I didn't really like this particular track as much as I did the others.

I have 3 things to say about this update:

1. We finally get a screen with both Sonic and Snake (not that its important)

2. The Donkey Kong remix was awesome (though I was expecting it to be the song in this video.)

3. Still not a Sonic stage

Nevermind that, you could've deducted the existence of widescreen support from nearly every piece of Brawl footage we received. I was just waiting for the confirmation to finally appear on the Dojo.

So where's the surround sound confirm?

I know people are whining (yet AGAIN) about the quality of this update, but I like it, and here's why:

Today's update could have been something "better" like, say, Zelda's final smash. But while we don't know what that will be, we do know that it will be SOMEthing. So far this week , instead of stuff like that, we've been given two updates that we didn't know for sure that we'd be getting: tap jump disabling and widescreen support. I've always said it's the little things like this that will make this game great, and I'm glad to have them. Sakurai has given just about every "little thing" that we've asked for, but when he shows us one of them, people STILL whine and complain. I don't get it.
