Saki Amamiya from Sin & Punishment comes to the Brawl scene as an assist trophy, but not without Sakurai’s apologies.

There were many requests from users for his inclusion, and he IS pretty cool, so I did what I could to include him. After all, this game does let you enjoy a dream cast of supporting characters!

I must say I was never a big fan of the series myself, but the game’s characters were indeed unique. Saki brings a lot to the table with his Cannon-Sword. I guess Squall wasn’t nearly as original with his weapon as I thought he was.

Some of the things Sakurai has been mentioning in these blogs though has speculation driving especially with characters he knows we’d want playable. The next thing you know, we’ll see a Ridley trophy with Sakurai’s apologies.
Saki starts off with a slice to the face…

Why Sakurai?! Why must you play mind games with us? While I have never been a big fan of the game, I was really hoping to see him take a spot on Brawl, oh well, there is always still Rippu.

The lack of a unique "Sin & Punishment" icon- the generic Smash Bros. icon was used instead- does not support the thought that there will be a stage or playable charactar from this series very well. It doesn't DECONFIRM it, of course, just doesn't make it look too likely.

Isn't this a 2nd party character? I know Treasure developed the game so the rights may be shared with Nintendo, who copyrighted the game.

This update makes me excited for the possible inclusion of Marina.

Sounds like a cool assist trophy, I wonder how well it dose for locking on and attacking someone or dose it just slash away wildly?

Also, I'm sorry but I need to post this just so people can avoid the same mistake I made...

It was a pretty interesting Assist Trophy. With the generic Smashbros symbol you know this is all the representation it will get.

Now I wonder what other Treasure games released on a Nintendo Console has Nintendo published.

No, he really hasn't. Character or Stage in the game = series icon. Assist trophies are tied to a series icon if applicable. 2 + 2 = ?. I'm just saying this so you don't get your hopes up.

Oh yeah that happened to me too, except that when i put in my game again a random pop up came and updated my wii and i could play my new mario galaxy game (I'd just die if i couldn't play it... >_>; )

On topic: Never heard of this guy, he's pretty cool though i like his legs

I hope they do an update with a ridley and geno assist trophy where they both come out and fight with each other.

Good lord, you people have no idea how the business of rights works for Video Games.

It does not matter who publishes it. There is only ONE exception to the following...

THE DEVELOPER KEEPS THE RIGHTS TO ALL THINGS MADE IN THE GAME.

The one exception is if the contract says otherwise. Nintendo is SMART with this. They almost always make the contract so that they retain the rights to all things made under their publishing name. You can pretty much guarantee that any original IP published by Nintendo is owned by them. For example, they do not own n-Space, but do own Geist. Another example, if Camelot (still under contract with Nintendo, people), or Game Freak were to officially break away, Nintendo would probably retain Golden Sun or Pokemon. So I KNOW Nintendo owns Marina, so it is possible she will appear.

Microsoft was smart with this too... they still own the Cash Cow known as Halo.

As for Saki, I wanted him playable. I own SaP for the VC, and it is great. Oh well, atleast he is in the game. :D I hope Marina is in too.

It is actually owned by Game Freak. Game Freak is a second party to Nintendo.

I think it would be a severe lack in judgement if the Metroid series contiues to be only represented by Samsus in yet another addition. With the success the series has had over the recent years, it would only make sense to include at least another character to please the growing fan base. If not Ridley, then who?

Ridley's would be nice playable, but I don't think Ridley was ever meant to be smashed around like your average Smash brother like that, he's just too big, bulky, and bossy. Making him a playable character would make him look weak.

The new hunters, while only in one games, (Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime 3) have better physique for "playable character" status.

Just like in the game, Saki actually only slashes you when you are close and shoots you when you are far away. If he is charging his shot and you're still close, he will still fire it. At least that's what I heard from E for All. He's around longer than this update makes it seem.

Yeah, but Bowser never did stay one size throughout the Mario series. Ridley, more or less retained his relative size to Samus.

Lawl, as weird as the Check Mii Out channel is (good Cap. Falcon Miis on there, btw), it isn't gonna break your Wii. Hasn't done anything to mine. You prolly just have really bad timing with your system going out or something. Or it could be something simple. *shrug*

LOLOLOL. I've read many an article about publishers getting the rights to a game (and thus have more power to tell developers - who generally know how to make good games, publishers don't and aren't supposed to - what to do and how to make a game), generally because they provide the money to produce it so the rights is one of the ways they make a return on thier money. There's work being done to change that, but from what I've read in official sources (GI for sure, possibly on Gamasutra as well), publishers generally get the rights. It's not an exception - it's the general rule of thumb.

FF VIII came out almost two years before Sin and Punishment, according to Gamefaq release dates, so Saki copied Squall, I guess.

Decent update. We kinda knew about him from E for All, but had practically no info and barely a description (he runs around hitting people, heh).

What do you mean? I've downloaded it the day it came out, and used it multipile times, and my Wii functions just fine.

As for Saki... Well, I never got around to playing this game, but he does looks like a nice Assist Trophy to have.

Its a shame. Saki was one of my most wanted PCs, long before his game went on the VC.

sakurai is just cruel like that. right when S&P goes on the VC, and everyone goes "ZOMG, how cool! I want this guy in brawl!" sakurai goes and makes him an AT.

well, at least we know one thing: saki is a complete shoe-in for SSB4!

oh, and it disturbs me that people dont know who he is. haven't you people ever used the VC yet?

I've been at college, with my systems back home so I can study. So no, I haven't gone online with my Wii to find out about this game.
