Sakurai revealed on the DOJO today an item we knew was around from E 4 All videos, but gave a better understanding of it and a better explanation of bomb use in the game. These moves aren’t nearly as end-all as they used to be.

As a big fan of the Star Fox games, I’m glad to see some Star Fox items make it into Brawl. This item clearly replicates the same thing the actual bombs in Star Fox Assault produce. I wanted to note that these bombs are more in tune with Assault than they are with any other Star Fox game because of the way it explodes. In previous Star Fox games and even in Star Fox Command, they weren’t nearly as accurate as the one’s in Assault were, nor were they as damaging.

This item when hit engulfs the opoonent instead of outright pushing them out causing it to inflict more damage as the opponent is blasted out of the Smart Bomb’s blast radius.

<p align="center">Like any bomb though, it is wise to stay out of the blast radius when you throw it as the radius grows as it detonates.</p>

Now this is where I think Sakurai went right. Bombs in matches have always handed a free K.O. to the most unskilled of opponents, however, with the bomb having a chance of being a dud, maybe the player will think twice before running for an item they may not need.

There's a 2nd part, not sure if you missed it or just plan on giving it another topic altogether, but I'm annoyed that they didn't learn from the previous game that the 1-P camera is ****ing stupid and makes the training mode even more useless.

you have to realize that updates like these are trageted towards newcomers
"useless" updates like these aren't that great for experianced like player you and me but if i didn't know how to play i would love to get updates like these.they are just trying to make sure that anyone that wants to play can play because there are always more people than just us.......think about it that is what the wii is based off you know letting anyone play
sorry blaming but do you get what im saying and who knows they could change it and make it better lets just wait and see:)

Nice item though. I'm happy that Sakurai is getting these out of the way (as long as it's not on a Friday). It's also nice to know it's from the starfox franchise (I was clueless of it's origins beforehand).

Looks like im a bit late.

I like this smart bomb, really cool item. fun to mess around with in casual games (cause we know it sure as hell isnt going to be allowed in compettive)

And hey, Electrode is confirmed for brawl once again ^_^

Wow, you completely missed my point.

I was *****ing about not being able to use the C-Stick in training mode in Melee, and they're doing the same thing in Brawl.

But I like to watch my character do stuff close up and in slow motion! You gotta think of the people who just like watching the characters do what they do, man.

I think it's becoming Sakurai's new hobby to put new items in how to play updates.

I wonder what the mystery Soccer Ball does?
I guess you could just kick it?

personally ive never used the c stick....i just have gotten to used to manually smashing so its no problem for me

smart bomb looks painful but i dont really worry about anything i can catch

I myself am somewhat annoyed that the Pause looks exactly the same as the Melee one on the Training update, in that it doesn't freeze the action at all. That was annoying.

It's the closest thing we'll have to a nuke unless one of the Pokemon or ATs can beat that.

We never knew about these updates. Awesome update, Sakurai. I mean, we did see the bombs in motion at E 4 All, but seriously, still caps are just so much better. And training mode! I thought that was gone from Melee! Thank the lord it's back! I was getting worried.

Wait, this isn't episode 20 of Show me Your News...

Electrode has always been blowing up back in Melee. Since we're now getting to the future Pokemon generations, Sakurai wants to show cases where Explosion would fail.

In the games, Explosion doesn't work if a Pokemon with the Damp ability is in battle.

Good point SonicLuigi, it'd be cool if instead of waiting till he's black, you can pick up a dud electrode. He could go off while he's in your hands, or you could throw him to your opponent and make him move out of hiding.

You do it all the time. It's pretty **** annoying especially when the answers to your questions are so obvious. You would have to be incredibly stupid if you don't know that Electrode will be in Brawl.
