Today’s update has brought about a stage of peculiarity which really has me and probably some wondering if Masahiro hasn’t been using some psychoactives lately. The Dojo showed us a new “nonsense” stage called PictoChat, which is based off the program integrated into the Nintendo DS.

<p align="center"> <strong>A drawing appears…
</strong>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022a-l.jpg" alt="First Drawing" align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" />

</p>
<p align="center"><strong>Sometimes the stage is erased clean.</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022b-l.jpg" alt="Clean Slate." align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center"><strong> The drawings that appear in these stages can actually be climbed upon and used as a platform.</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022c-l.jpg" alt="A cloud, maybe?" align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center"><strong> Some drawings have environmental effects like the wind trying to blow you off the stage.</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022d-l.jpg" alt="This stage blows... really!" align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center"><strong>The stage adapts to many different drawings with, what appears be, a fully interactive background.</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022e-l.jpg" alt="Roller Coaster, woo, woo, woo!" align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center"><strong>Some of the drawings though start to become lethal and can prove to be useful toward a Smasher’s strategy.</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022f-l.jpg" alt="Burn, baby burn!" align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center"><strong>Some parts of the stage, despite the odd shape to them are climbable platforms to work from.</strong></p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022g-l.jpg" alt="It's flat, yet solid..." align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">According to Sakurai, the doodles come and go, but doesn’t mention if any pattern is set for it. It is also interesting to note the bottom part of the stage which says when a character is entering. This could be a result of someone being knocked off the stage and re-”enter”ing the stage.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022h-l.jpg" alt="Save the whales!" align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">Also, Sakurai has informed us that the selection of music for this stage will allow for some very “unique” music such as the Will Shop Channel music and the Mii Channel music. Oh, boy, I can only imagine how exciting that will be.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/stage15_071022i-l.jpg" alt="Wow, such selection, I've always wanted to battle to the music of the... Wii Shop Channel?" align="middle" border="0" height="329" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center"><strong>I’m so stoked, I’m gonna be pumped for battle with… Wii Shop Channel?</strong></p>

Really weird, but does this eat one of the available franchise icon slots?

Dang, when I first saw this, I thought you could connect your DS to the Wii and draw your own stages. :(

But now looking at it again I think its just predrawn pictures that randomly appear.

At first I thought you would draw your own stages with the Wiimote then play them but this still looks good :D

It would of been cool if the person can actually draw something up there, that way we actually draw nothing and get a totally tournament legal stage...

Though, drawing up something could somewhat be fun, though person who draws will probably be a jerk and just put walls between combatants...

oooh looks cool. kinda reminds me of flatzone with the white background and black things coming out and doing weird things, although they look to act more like pokefloats like some else mentioned.

this makes me wonder just whose stage this is for, since each stage usually is for a certain character, minus FD and battlefield.

It's Flatworld fused with Poke Floats, I don't like the fixed camera type look, but it looks interesting otherwise.

Oh Misto, you and Mic are just as bad as one another with these crazy thread titles.

Weird update, though. Should be quite cool to play on!

why do people insist that solely stages without any obstacles will be tournament legal?

UGH, I was SOOOOOO excited, I thought you could draw stages in real-time with someone sitting there with a DS. Then I was like, "Wait, how do they recognize if you want to draw wind? How do they know you want that to move?"

Predrawn stage = :'(

Well, it's not yet deconfirmed that your own stages can be drawn...
Think of it this way. There are two line thicknesses in pictochat, thin and thick. You can use thich to draw solid platforms, and thin to draw environments. Stick a thin dot in the middle of a circle and it becomes a wheel. Draw an arrow next to a gust and it becomes wind blowing in said direction. Complicated, but cool.

Ok, I thought no stage could get weirder and more unique than warioware stage. But this took the cake. But what I want to know is why does it have it's own icon. This icon is number 21 on the list. Better report to the icon discovery thread.

Oh wow.. very unique and interesting stage; I could have never thought of something like this. I can't say I'm a big fan of the music choices but it looks fun and maybe you can draw your own stages? Who knows?
And why does this get its own icon? Sakurai you leave us with more questions than answers.

he would have mentioned something as cool as that, pictochat... hrm

I'm undecided. It's WAY better than flatzone.

I wonder if he'll add in the most drawn thing on the DS's Pictochat; The Wang

It's still possible that you can draw your own stages, like in Pac-pix where the game recognizes arrows and bombs.
Still this btage looks great and I can't wait to try it out.

This level is not faithful to real pictochat. Not enough *****.

edit: Wow, it censored a legitimate name for the male sex organ. Talk about taking taboos to an extreme. >_>
