<p align="center">One of the alternate modes that was actually popular was good ol Homerun Contest, with the good ol’ Sandbag. Sandbag was already confirmed earlier, so the fact that HRC is back isn’t a big suprise, but the changes and additions are!</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various08_071016b-l.jpg" alt="Mario beats up a defenceless Sandbag. Some hero." /></p>

<p align="center"><!--more-->
As per normal, you beat up Sandbag, then before the timer runs out, you send it flying with the Homerun bat.
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various08_071016c-l.jpg" alt="And now weapons? Man, so sadistic!" /></p>
<p align="center">However a new change is the Shield! You can’t prematurly knock it off the stage, and due to this, there’s surly new combos that will be made to raise the percentages.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various08_071016f-l.jpg" alt="Even yoshi too? What's going ooooon!" /></p>

<p align="center">Yet another new twist is co-op! Double-team the ‘armless Sandbag and get even higher damage!
Another 2 player mode is “Two-player alternating play” where 2 people take turns. (Think normal mode but player 2 gets a turn right after player 1.
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various08_071016g-l.jpg" alt="Good lord!? Isn't this more like Bowser and Ganon's job?" /></p>
<p align="center">Oh, and did I mention both 2 player modes are online?</p>

<blockquote>
<p align="center">This option can be found under With Friends. And it supports both the two-player cooperative and two-player alternating modes.</p>
</blockquote>
<p align="center">Looks like it’s another home run for Sakurai! (*groan*)</p>

To be honest, even though this is just an old mode, it's still a pretty friggen sweet update.

No Clones

Sorry to bust your bubble but Mr. Sakurai already said there will be no clones in this game. There is still a possibility that Ness could be back LUcas isnt exactly a clone of Ness. Dont hold your breath but I kinda have faith Ness could be back even though I dont like him. Just have faith man I mean I was always hoping Sonic would be in Brawl and I had faith he would be and now look he is in Brawl so have faith. If he isnt then you can pummel me later lol. In Brawl that is.

One of my favorite updates by far. I've always been into the Stadium scene in Melee. Hopefully we can expect more like this.

Stay on topic. There are multiple Subspace and WiFi threads, go pester there.

Anyway, awesome update, simply love the multiplayer idea as well as the barrier. Seems like they've fixed the major annoyances in Melee's HRC.

But what's with the title? "STADIUM: HOME-RUN CONTEST"? Does this mean that the whole Stadium bit is back again? If so, I'll be a very happy bunny! I wanna see the new Target Tests :D

IGN reported it second-hand from a different web site covering Nintendo's japanese press conference last week, but the mention of it sounded vague and poorly worded, so that it could have meant "co-op and online play," or it could have meant "online co-op play." I'm gonna guess they didn't actually say it, although I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Interesting the the platform has a shield. Now you can use pretty much any character and any atttack on him.

The 2 player addition was to be expected. In fact, I even called it about a month ago (maybe not on here but, in my mind). I'm happy it actually came true though, which makes me believe that the other modes in the Stadium will allow for 2 players if applicable. (Target Test 2 player mode, anyone!?)

The amount of online capabilities with this mode give me hope that they're planning a lot of friend-online modes. Otherwise, wouldn't it be weird to have just Brawls...and Homerun Contests?

I'm not putting my hopes up for subspace, but like someone said, the Wireframe battles would be great and at least have team co-op with your FRIENDS, if not with anyone.

The online mode was a nice touch. Perhaps the Brawl online system might me good after all.

*hopes for co-op 100 man melee*
Now *that* would be much more interesting! :)

As for co-op home run contest... I'm not sure... after reading that update I wasn't really excited at all. It seems all so... unnecessary. I mean you can dress it up as much as you want but you're still just hitting a sandbag. Not that I'm really ungrateful though, it's great to see Sakurai is giving us so many options, it's just I'd be more interested in what this means for more of the other modes :p particularly Adventure and Multi-Man Melee.

I see Stadium mode is back. Which means there's Target Test. I hope they bring back Board the Platforms.

Cool! The thing that bothered me the most on the homerun contest is that it was hard to keep the sandbag on the plate. Now, me and my sister, can do it together. :p

From what I heard a friend say, it's not this updat that is so exciting but rather what it entails. Could we be getting a multiplayer multiman brawl on wifi? What about training mode? This would be great for clans!

Does this mean captain falcon can still use his falcon punch instead of the Homer Bat?
If you don’t put some force into it, you won’t break through the shield, so you can pummel Sandbag to your heart’s content. This will surely allow you to string together some new combos.
I'm guessing that means some of the stronger moves like falcon punch will break through it.

I hope that is the case it will be rubbish if you can just falcon punch it 40 times

Falcon Punching it repeatedly would result in crap damage. Without the force field people got over 4k with a ton of the characters. Damages over 230% were not uncommon. Alot of these were possibly BECAUSE there was no forcefield. Get the facts straight.

But whew what an amazing update!:)

Slowly starting to enjoy my mothertongue again. :)
Noobs will just rapid jab against the wall and then tipper. The wall will change strategies, but I'm not very concerned about that as I like a fresh, new HRC and not the same old strategies. Obviouly, bat drops will still be the driving force behind HRC, but I think that there may some new uber-maxed strategies with stuff like bat drops against the wall and stuff. I like it.
