New stage today! And WHAT a stage! Ripped from MOTHER 3, we have New Pork City, one of, if not the largest stage in Smash Bros history.

The scale of this stage is one of the grandest in the Smash Bros series. The scale is, say, about as same as that Temple stage—you know the one I’m talking about?

Unlike Hyrule Temple, this stage is so bright and flashy, you’re really going to need to focus to keep from being distracted, as the stage is filled with flashing billboards.

Like Hyrule Temple, it’s going to be the home of the hit-and-run tactics, and Sakurai’s aware of it.

At any rate, it’s big, so if all someone does is run away, there will be no end to it. But with so much freedom, it becomes a giant playground.

However, don’t think this stage is Hazard free.

Also, a monster known as the “Ultimate Chimera” appears on this stage. The-there it is!

If this guy sinks his teeth into you, it will launch you off in one blow. It’s pretty much certain that if you get hit, you’ll lose a life. But there’s nothing you can do. I mean, it IS the Ultimate Chimera.

I love this stage. I can't wait to play as Diddy on it, since he's a monkey, and this is a playground

Look at that design. This is the best looking stage by far.

Now maybe I say that because of it's grand scheme, but just look at that detail.

I'm maining Sonic. Sonic will **** on this stage. Just like Fox did on Temple.

I really hope we do get Hyrule Temple back along with this stage. Then we can get two big stages! :D

Anyway, this stage looks awesome! I don't care about the hazard because as long as I run away from it, it can't get me!

Some Major Mother 3 Spoilers to go with that Chimera

See that button on it's back? Well in the game if it is pressed (in a sequence) it will be shut off.

***MOTHER 3 SPOILERS... KINDA***
In Mother 3, you could stop it by stepping on the button on its back... visible in the screenshots.

***END***

BEST. STAGE. EVER.
Nope. The best stage ever will be Sonic's casino stage. Colorful, vibrant, awesome music, slots, hookers? Maybe not hookers, but everything else would be there.

A big city stage. Just what we needed. And I was thinking that we would get something we know already.

Sonic would most likely get Green Hill Zone as a stage. It is the most well known level in the Sonic series.

I hope we get more of these big stages. Most of the ones in the demo looked way too small for 4 players, I liked some of the tactical uses Hyrule Temple had in 2v2.

Oh yeah, this is also one of the first levels we've seen that can influence a characters damage right? Chimera attacking players etc. I can't off hand remember any of the smaller stages having things like that in (melee had alot of 'em) Makes it look like the bigger maps are more for 4 person matches (items on, read, fun matches) Whilst the smaller ones are more for the serious player with no distractions.. eh.. who knows.

Yay1 a Big stage. I was beginning to think we'd only have smaller to medium stages. I don't like Small stages much. Especially when you play with someone who is good with Shiek.. Then you just get *****.

But I loved Hyrule Temple and This stage looks awesome. I also like the Ultimate Chimera cause he has a little birdie on his head.

Sakurai rules.. "I’m no maaaaaaaatch..."

I hope we get a character soon though.

Ok it's great and all that they are putting all this mother 3 stuff in but i consider it a big kick in my b*lls. Kinda like they are saying hey look at these cool things from this game you'll never play. Sorry if i seem irrate but i have been waiting for the sequel to earthbound for 12 years, its my favorite game :p. But never the less the stage looks fun.

I thought the whole point of all this was so they had a justification to put out new Mother stuff worldwide, like they were able to do with Fire Emblem in Melee. Except instead of it being Ness, who most people just remember as being from "that game with the really crappy graphics" (which, honestly, for its time they DID look pretty ancient and retro wasn't "in" yet) it's this guy from a NEW game, that they know nothing about. So now it can be "look at this awesome stage and crazy monster! I'd sure love to find out some more about this!"

It'd also be awesome if they put it on Virtual Console so I wouldn't have to buy a portable system.

Actually, I believe the first stage with hazards is Yoshi's Island. Chain chomps.

The MOTHER 3 translation project is moving along pretty darn well, and is slated to be absolutely finished sometime in November.
If you're not against using emulators, then it's definitely something to check out.
I'm typically all for supporting the actual company that made the game, but if there's no other way to play it (In English, that is) then I'm all for it.

But on topic, this stage is fantastic.
It has a very MOTHER feel to it (Aside from being a very important piece of MOTHER 3), but it just... exudes that MOTHER coolness we all know and love.
I love the idea of the Chimera too, as it helps to keep people from simply avoiding the rest of the fight while they have a high %.
Had a friend who would do that in the Temple back in the day, running all over the stage just so no one would KO him. Hopefully now the Chimera can nip him in the butt as he dashes by.

Stage looks cool, but I'm confused as to why Sakurai didn't release Norfair instead. New stage is fine, but it just would make sense... Not that I'm complaining. I'm unsure how this will all turn out - There are a lot of platorms, so I'm expecting many foot-stool jumps and Meteor Smashes in this level to the point of Spamming it. Unlike others, Seeing the Chimera ruined it for me... Hazards like that are teh fail, IMO.

Practically half of the stages have stage hazards now, I'm kind of hoping there will be a way to turn them off. This stage would be really fun without the Chimera (and even with it New Pork City looks like a blast).

That is the whole point of the thing.
For the MOTHER franchise, the "ultimate chimera" is the fusion between a ducky and a giant red monster with enormous teeth. Thus laugh ensues. That is the spirit of MOTHER.

Oh, really?
I think last time I checked, they said something about struggling very hard to get it done before Brawl comes out... now that Brawl's delayed, there doesn't seem to be such a great need to hurry...
I'd really love to play that game...

As for the stage... I loved every bit of it until that chimera popped up. Sure, it's ultimate, but I'm getting annoyed by all those stage hazards. It's not a fun playground if a bully keeps coming to smack you.
People have suggested that it might stop the hit-and-run tactics that got many stages banned in Melee, but... how? I doubt that it will only attack whoever is resorting to running away, I don't think it could reliably stop the person from doing it and I don't think there is a reliable way for the CPU to know who is doing it in the first place...
