Watch youtube videos and try to learn how to read what your opponent is doing. Don't play like a mindless idiot and try and spam tech moves. It doesn't work against people who are good at reading actions. No one can really help you in this department, you have to force yourself to think by YOURSELF when you play.

That'll surprise him alright.

Just keep playing, try to figure out what his doing. And counter it, It may sound hard now, but It's actually fairly easy once you get the hang of it.
