Well Monday comes again, and yet another Newcomer hits the streets. One of the more common discussions regarding Earthbound was wether Ness would make a return, or wether Lucas, the star of MOTHER 3 would take his slot. It’s been a heated debate with fans citing the fact that Lucas was tipped to replace Ness in Smash Bros Melee. It looks like Sakurai may have decided to go through with it for Brawl.

First!! Well This is awesome Im gald Lucas is gonna be a playable character. OMFG I cant wait for this game its getting better and better. December 3rd cant come soon enough.

I still have a tiny bit of hope. I mean Lucas has a move that Ness doesn't...

I've wanted him in since Brawl was announced. And now he's in *dances*

If Ness is in or out I don't care. I'm fine with Lucas! *crosses fingers for more EB/M3 characters*

The picture of Lucas and Metaknight looks like Lucas' footstool jump.

Second one... PSI Shield? But he's not in it. WTH?

Third and fourth... I think Mic is right about the taunt. <_<

We don't know if he's replacing Ness yet. I hope he doesn't.

I seem to remember it being mentioned somewhere that Sakurai was gonna bring back all of the original Smashers from the original game. If that was true, which I'm not sure of exactly since I didn't see an official source for it but that's because I haven't exactly looked, I don't see why he would then decide to replace Ness with Lucas since Lucas is most definately not one of the original smashers.

But, then I'm one of those who hopes they bring back everyone from the melee roster, with adjustments where needed to make sure no one is a clone of anyone else (This includes Roy. Roy was one of my favorites. I'm going to be quite disapointed if he doesn't make it and I don't understand why so many people don't like him). I might be hoping for too much.

I wonder what the fate of Ness will be? Most likely an alternate costume, but I don't think he'll be removed from the game altogether...

QFT again. I hope most from Melee (Pichu and Dr.Mario excluded) get back in for brawl. There's no real need to remove them, other than "they sucked". And we know what happened to ICs don't we?

I really hope Ness doesn't come back, never liked him (i think it was the hat)
Anyway Lucas is 100x cooler than Ness, just look at his hair

Once again, Sakurai is too vague for our sanity. Though he mentions Ness, he leaves it so very open. But still; it seems as though Ness has some serious competition with Lucas, who looks a lot cooler than a now old-fashioned, boring Ness (imho).

Claus has T3H UBER KOOL GUNBASTA AND SWORD. Well I would like Claus to be in, but I too don't really like the Ness hate. I think all 3 should be in Brawl!<-- If this happens, it could signify a new Earthbound game for the Wii :grin:

I say Capt. Falcon's in and Ness is out.

"There are 34 playable characters (excluding transformations).
There are 20 starting characters, 14 hidden characters.
Six characters have been removed from the last game.
One of the "Original 12" has been removed.
There are 15 newcomers (excluding transformations).
All but one of the represented franchises from Super Smash Bros. Melee will be returning.
Two character profiles will be revealed this coming week at the DOJO!! (one veteran and one newcomer).

Mock me now if you must, but I'll certainly be having the last laugh. By the end of the week, you'll see that I'm correct with at least two of the above points."

Lucas is not Ness' Luigi, not Ness' replacement...rather, he is Ness' Silver Surfer! :grin:

I loved playing as Ness in Melee, but honestly, if they bring in Lucas with identical moves or slightly improved ones, I won't really care. I wasn't really into Ness as a character (never got into Earthbound), but more for his unique moves and funness.

And anyway, how could you argue with that hair?

I just noticed that. It does look like he's distracting him somehow. I wonder if that's one of his moves. Does he do anything like that in Mother 3?

My take on this is that Ness is making a return because the way it is written suggests that Ness is making a return. Sakurai is saying it as if those two would be able to 'pit their might' against each other, therefore meaning that Ness has a strong chance of being in the game. Plus I would think that Sakurai would keep all of the original 12 and most of the Melee gang bar absolute clones (i.e. Dr. Mario, Young Link). But HORAAY for Lucas, he looks brilliant and I can't wait to play as him. I reakon Lucas would play similar to Ness but still have his own style, which is probabily what Sakurai is going for in this game, each player having their own style, meaning no clones. That could mean that either no clones get in or all of the clones get their own style.

HORAAY, Lucas in Brawl!!!

That could simply be his taunt and they thought it would be cool/funny to make kirby look that way. Don't read to far into things.

Ah come on, they convinced me enough with all the unique poses that the game designers are POSING them that way. Like with The Golden Hammer and Bowser who thinks, ZeroSUit Samus who lays down with the Banana Peel update, Fox's fighterstance in the Ivysaur pic on Pokemon Trainer profile and this too. Maybe its from a cutscene, like"OMG KIRBY, ITS MASTER HAND!!!", but they're posing them in a comical way. (Like Wario looking for his "hog")

Not Bad...I always wanted to See just what Lucas can and now I get the privilage as to what the New Psychokinetic child can fight like...not to menton this was a wonderful way to start the Week...AND the new month..I realy hope his moveset is different from Ness'...does anybod Know Lucas' moves in MOTHER 3?
