We’re back to Subspace with todays update, and shown a little more on what things we can be facing in the single player story. Some look like generic baddies, while others look like potential mini bosses.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919a-l.jpg" alt="The Pre-evolution of Gorudon" />

Roader These guys run around in packs and are both fast and powerful

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919b-l.jpg" alt="oog." />

<strong>Poppant</strong> It carries gifts and candy in it’s pants (strange things to recruit for an army) and flee when approached.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919c-l.jpg" alt="Evolution of Electrode" />

<strong>Bytan</strong> These guys multiply if lft alone, so the quicker you beat them, the less there is to beat.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919d-l.jpg" alt="Don't forget to bring a Trowl!" />

<strong>Trowlon</strong> These guys like scooping up people and lifting them offscreen.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919f-l.jpg" alt="Wasn't this guy in The Incredables?" />

<strong>Auroros</strong> This bird loves dive bombing people, despite it’s lack of ability to avoid hitting, and getting stuck in, the ground.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919e-l.jpg" alt="Wow" />

<strong>Shaydas</strong> Potential miniboss? Only weak point is it’s glowing chest.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919g-l.jpg" alt="Wow again" />

<strong>Greap</strong> Attacks by swinging scyths down. Weak point is it’s read head.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/modea06_070919h-l.jpg" alt="But...we were friends? Why have you turned on us? *sob*" />

<strong>R.O.B. Squad</strong>
<blockquote>The escort the Ancient Minister brings with him is a R.O.B squad?! There are some that fire beams and others that fire missiles.

There are other enemies that will appear and try to impede your progress. Good luck! Don’t lose! And don’t run away!

You know, I don't like these creatures at all. Apart from ROB, non of them are from any Nintendo game to date, which I dislike. I think the humble Goomba, Redead, or even random Poke'mon would be far more suited to the role of "Annoying distracting bad guy".

I think a lot of these things look..well, really half-arsed. I mean, the first one is a motorized Unicycle. That's creative, but in a bad "Oh, what the hell is this?" kinda way. And a ball with two giant scythes? Why the hell is it a ball? I don't like these things at all.
Also, the names sound like someone pulled them out of their rectum in 2 seconds flat.
I can’t see these things catching on as popular enemies. I think they should stick to the “Nintendo All-star” track, and run off the “Kingdom of hearts rip-off” track. But I’m ranting, don’t listen to me. I’m just an old fool.

I've heard a lot of the creatures from the SubSpace Emissary look like enemies and such from other games. There was a big thing over one monster that looked like summat from Mega Man. I think most of these things are coincidence myself.

NO **** SHERLOCK!
^.-
Okay...then.
But you totally ruined the Australian-only thing that was goin' with this thread for a bit! :laugh:

The only thing I like about this update is we get to see what happens to Link, Pit, and Yoshi. And some of the stages or arenas or whatever you want to call them they have to beat.

I dunno, I like the variety, though we don't know if any of these will be in mass quantity beat-em-up form. R.O.B. is pretty amusing... especially if you remember that one X-play episode on G4...

Yea these things might not be from past nintendo games. Big deal. Why not put something new in the game. For example in Twilight princess there was both old characters as well and new.(those weird black things that looked like they had dreadlocks) The fighting polygon team were not in any other games to my knowledge. Anyway, now they are nintendo characters. Besides we have seen screens with the hammer bros and stuff like that.

I think that this is a decent update. It really shows that the 1p mode is going to be good. It is like a game inside of a game. I cant wait to kick the crap out of the subspace army.

I love these things. They really make SE seem like a complete, stand-alone game in its own right.
I also like their designs. They are remarkably... Sakurai!
I really don't know what else to say.
Melee's Adventure Mode seemed really half-***** to me. After the second time, it didn't feel special anymore to beat up on Goombas and Octoroks.

For some reason, I think it'll feel more special to see all the Nintendo heroes being playable in a completely new stand-alone game rather than to just run through random half-***** levels that vaguely remind you of existing games... *scratches head*

But, Blackadder, I think you might be forgetting that there are enemies from existing Nintendo franchises. Check back on the first SE update. It has Bullet Bills and a Hammer Bro! There are probably more where those came from.

I can't wait to actually play this game. I love me some good platformer action. ^^

Wow, is this the first time our paths have crossed in any form other than awesome voodoo WI-FI prediction PM's?
Weird.
But this Blackadder knows when he has been made a fool of.
I totally forgot about the enemies from Nintendo games. For shame.

I still hate these Sub Space guys, but I did breath a sigh of relief when I was reminded of the Bullet Bills.

Whee, the baddies look super awesome. I don't care that they dont stem from other games, just the fact that he took the time to create these....they look terrific might I add. I think Subspace will be awesome.

Just think, this Subspace is better than one thats like "ZoMG PIt Flalling DoN!" MOVIE!

Ok?

Well This proves nintendo hasn't really lost it's touch into making an awesome game, on a side note how ever.....um.....**** I can't think of one. Seriously, Smash-only characters have always been pretty awesome and always had potential in other games. Most like in Sakurai's other game series, Kirby. Who doesn't like it when you go head to head with Master and Crazy Hands in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror(and swallowing getting old special attacks!) I wonder if these guys will ever like the crates and barrels, changing due to scenery and feel of the level. And people shoudn't whine that they didn't see there Nintendo-based baddies, this is the Subspace Emissary enemies! I'm sure soon(december 2nd) they'll place the finishing touches on the brawl update(this would look like the most probable time for Sonic to show up, I mean he is most requested and is a third party character. The worse that can happen is Sakurai pulls a prank and says Sonic won't be in Brawl, that be too cold.) I can't wait for mor video's for the adventure mode for this game, seeing a pokemon on would be awesome!:p:p

I wasn't as excited to see the baddies that we would be fighting as the levels on which we would be fighting them. The forest level especially caught my eye.

These are alright enemies I suppose. They appear to be kind of unnecessary, however. I think Nintendo licensed enemies would have done just fine. Like the Roller? Could have been a Wheel [Kirby]. Popant? Could have been a Lakitu [Mario]. Bytan? Obviously a Voltorb rip-off [Pokemon]. Shaydas? Could have been Phantom Ganon [Zelda]. Auroros? A Shriek Bat [Metroid] would have worked fine, though they don't really stick in the ground. Greap? A larger version of a Grim Reaper [Kid Icarus].

Not to say they look bad, I just would have liked to keep the whole game "Nintendo All-Star" centered. No problem with Primid, Fighting Wireframes, or Fighting Polygons, but I would have rather had this be a Nintendo game and not so much a Sakurai game.

Save these guys for the Kirby series, Sakurai. Keep things simple here.

I concur! We're ignoring the backgrounds, which are just as important as the baddies themselves, really.

The forest is amazing. We already saw it in the first SE update... I think.

Now what about the other places?

I'm especially interested in the background of the Roader... it looks like Castle Siege meets hell.

Let's see.

->
Same place? Some kinda barren place, obviously...

+
->
Angel Land? The Greap seems a lot like a miniboss to me, one you have to hunt down as it constantly runs from you while swinging its sickles...

->
Again, same place?

And so on... well, there's not really a lot to analyze here...

Wow..the enemy aren't bad but their names are HORRIBLE. They're just as bad as names I'd think up for monsters when I was a kid. o_O

Maybe they don't sound horrible in Japan.

Looks like they can be more menacing than Kingdom Hearts' Heartless.

I like the fact that you can fight ROBs.

This is only some of the big bad guys, I bet there will be more Ninteno-related baddies although I prefer the subspace army as it is.

these thingshonestly look like a derivative from Nintendo games. That multiplying ball thing looks like electrode. That unicycle dude looks like wheelie (from kirby). Same thing with the othe dudes. Still I had hoped for more waddle dee/goomba action. I hope this doesn't deconfirm that.

Melee's Adventure mode disappointed me. The first level, the Brinstar escape, and the F-Zero race were the only ones that felt like an adventure. The rest of it is just like Smash 64's Single Player mode. I hate how you can beat the Underground Maze by just skipping everything and just finding the triforce. And Ness's stage was just crap.

I found Race to the Finish (64 and Melee) more fun than Adventure Mode's levels (for the most part) since it actually feels like platforming action.

But I don't think I have to worry about this for Brawl :laugh:

That background is GORGEOUS
It's screenshots like this that make me think that Adventure mode this time will satisfy.

If they have WW Link bad guys in it, I hope they have those pig-faced things that guard the Forbidden Fortress, those Knights in Armour, and the ReDeads (The best ReDeads if you ask me).

But yeah, I like this, it seems so weird to see your favourite Nintendo characters all put together in this one game, and story, battling against enemies they would never see in their games.

More importantly, who is this Grand master that is escorted by Rob. Is it the last person you beat the mode with, Captain N(The Game master, I want this so so bad), Master Hand, or some unknown entity?
