Min Min and now Pyra both were playable before their respective games' protagonists, who had Mii Costumes.

Still, Sakurai hasn't come out yet to say Mii costumes deconfirm. Unless he says something, it's just speculation whether or not Mii costumes do deconfirm.

I've never played any Xenoblade, but Rex does not look like an engaging and charismatic character in the least. I think Pyra and Mythra were probably chosen for being more marketable than anything else.
