Not even Yu, but he's cool too. I like most Persona characters, but just with a few exceptions.

I like Yukari, the only ones I don't like are Yosuke and Ken kinda, unless you also count Social Links.

The only major problem I have with Ken is that he contributes nearly nothing to the plot aside from getting Shinjiro killed. I understand him, though, but he's kinda underwhelming.

That's my problem with him: he's more of a catalyst, a plot device, rather than a character. I forgot to mention that I hate Teddie in Persona Q.

How is he in Persona Q?

Personally I had mixed feelings of him in Persona 4. He was a neat character and all, but he becomes so obnoxious at points.

Most characters are pretty bad in Persona Q since they mostly focus on one character trait (like Chie's obsession with meat, Akihiko always wanting to fight or something, Mitsuru is always threatening to execute people, Kanji is extra stupid). Teddie's only traits are competing with Koromaru for people's affections and being a disgusting womanizer. Persona Q is overrated imo.

I figured as much. After all it's just a P3/P4 crossover fanservice.

Still sounds like a wasted opportunity for in-depth character interactions, but all well I guess.

From the few cutscenes I've seen of the game, I get a 'KH 358/2 days' kind of vibe from it. Especially from Rei (is that her name?), she reminds me of Xion

Something else I forgot to mention is that Persona Q is super broken for an SMT game. Magic is awful since magic spells cost A LOT more (Agidyne costs like 36 magic) but the sp growths are super low (Yukiko has the highest so is around 200 I believe) making physical a lot better. Naoto is also broken since Light/Dark is surprisingly good, she has high agility, and sub personas fix the bad move pool issue).

Magic characters are generally awful since they are usually slow and have poor stats other than magic and luck. Special mention goes to Teddie, who is designed as a front row fighter despite having low stats in everything (magic included) except for luck. Sorry, I just really had to vent.

That explains why everybody and their mother buffs Chie to no end.

Do the supports (Rise and Fuuka) play any important role?

Yeah, supports have their own skills (Fuuka favors healing, while Rise allows players to move earlier) and they can equip sub personas with specially marked skills. They need circles to activate battle skills, which can be earned by landing hits I think.

How are status ailments? I hear that there are plenty, but are they as bad as they seem?

Me patra got a huge buff, it cures all status. I think Amrita was also buffed to act like Salvation, I think. Status is super annoying, especially petrifaction and paralysis. It's been a while since I played really, but I don't remember status being too much of a problem.

Do you think the buffs were to compensate for increased costs?

Me Patra costs the same as amrita used to so that's not an issue, magic wasn't even buffed since they introduced elemental attacks as well, negating the need for magical coverage.
