Well I'm not particularly well versed in J-pop (I like metal and stuff), but I am a profound fan of K-On!

You don't have to be well versed in J-Pop to like listening to it! I think K-On has great music even if I didn't like it as much as THE iDOLM@STER. (Which is incidentally the only anime I've ever liked.)
