I would suggest watching SAO 1 first but if you don't want to watch all 25 episodes, theres an hour long recap episode as an in-between of SAO 1 and 2. It should get you up to speed for SAO 2. Its up to you.

So who's your favorite character in SAO and why?

Favorite character? Hmm, I would probably say Leafa for no particular reason. She's really cool in the ALO story arc but they ruin her in SAO 2. Same for Asuna, they pretty much take a back seat the whole time...

That sounds unfortunate.. SAO 2 is primarily focused on Shinon and F!Kirito right?

Yeah pretty much. Not to rag on Sinon or anything but it sucks that Asuna is just taking back seat after the struggle we went through getting her back in the last season.
I'm like 3 episodes behind so I'm not sure if she steps up at any point yet.

Maybe the author is planning a big return for her? I can't say for sure since I don't know what goes on with her throughout the series. xD

I've been trying to make RWBY based Mii Fighters but the outfits are no good for what I want. Serious disappointment.

To be honest, from the way the PotDs showcased the outfits made it seem like there would be a crapton of different clothes to choose from

I'll say. And they're not really worth the struggle it takes to get them.
I was hoping something ala Tomodachi Life to happen. It's too bad.

They should've adopted the clothing from Tomodachi Life

I guess it would've been too much work for a character that isn't an integral part of the game. They had to focus on all the other characters too.
I would've liked that you could at least change the shirt and pants of each outfit. Biker Gear top and Vampire Garb bottom makes a great Yang from RWBY.

I was actually hoping for swappable clothes for the main characters haha, but I guess that would affect the charm of having only some characters get alts.

Yeah I'm a little disappointed that the Equipment doesn't show on the character. Like how you have Super Defense Vest or Hyper Desperate Final Smash Gloves or whatever. It's a shame that they don't show in gameplay.

I would think DLC costumes would be a thing but it's already a pain in the ass to get the outfits, I doubt they'll just let us buy them like that.

Who knows for certain, but I hope that we're able to buy and get as opposed to buy then unlock. Speaking of which, do you think Mewtwo will be made available from the start once you download it, or would you have to unlock it?

Hmm that's interesting. I would say no since DLC is usually paid for but this one is free. I'm pretty sure they won't but it'd be cool if they said "Yo, the game just got a free update and Mewtwo's unlockable. Have fun." And them have the requirement be the same as Melee.
