We are starting to have a scene again. After our scene died (after genesis 1)is when i got into melee/64. We've started to revive the scene and are hosting tournaments at UNR(we have one tomorrow). Most of our players blow(i am the best at 64 and melee, currently) but there is some real interest again up here for the first time in a long time

Cool. I'm assuming Brawl stayed dead up there? I might be interested in making a trip up to see how it is and maybe build some interest for showing up to each other's tourneys between Vegas and Reno every once in a while. Do you have any regular tournament schedule or do they just get planned randomly?

brawl is what kinda killed smash in general up here, unfortunately. We don't have regular tourneys, but they are planned more than a month in advance. The next planned one after tomorrow's is a June 1st Gaming Expo, which will host melee(maybe 64/brawl/p:m too, don't know yet). Once the semester ends I'll have more time to travel/schedule things too

Gaming expo? Any other fighters hosted there?

right now there will be LoL, CoD, and melee, as well as card games(mainly magic) along with live music, cosplay, and casual console gaming. I am currently trying to make it a two day event instead of one, and I want to add MvC and SSF4. we're still in planning but the spot we have is MASSIVE(silver legacy casino ballroom, its 10000+ square feet)

now we have monthly tournaments scheduled for the next 6 months, at the same venue. is there any advice you can give me as to how many setups i need? we definitely need help with the logistics part of events

How efficient do you want to be? Are you running pools or just double elimination brackets? For double elim, the MOST setups you'll ever need is equal to half the number of entrants (so 8 setups for 16 entrants), but generally a quarter (so 4 setups for 16) is enough as long as you run things reasonably on time. You'll definitely want more if you run pools though.

if we run pools for a16 man double elimination, with say 40 entrants, what is a good number of tvs? this June
event we're planning will have a lot of people

also, we now have monthly tournaments scheduled for the next six months, at the same venue

I'd recommend 8 TVs, so if you run 8 pools of 5 each you can at least have a TV for each pool, or run pools in two waves with each pool having two TVs. 16-man double elim will already be optimum efficiency at 8 TVs so you don't need any more than that for the brackets... any more than that isn't even possible to be used for tournament.

for sure. what about advertising? from what i can tell i am the only person in reno that post on smashboards. how do i get the word out? we passed out flyers around campus and told the game stores in town. rising the scene out of the ashes is hard X/

Honestly you've pretty much done all you can do, aside from somehow raising OOS hype. Building a scene is a process that takes work and doesn't yield results immediately or sometimes even at all. Best you can really do is play it in areas where you're free to bring a TV and set up and a lot of potential players gather.

to raise awareness and hype from oos, i know we want to start a 'good player fund' to bring oos state players(megabus goes to cali from reno), but to get the hype we still need a little more legitimacy lol. recording video is a good way to raise awareness too, right? we can stream potentially using the campus wifi
