Anyways Xerneas and Yveltal really don’t have much going for them on a casual glance at X and Y, which is really the fault of Gen 6 being essentially overlooked in development and never receiving any followups, but there is still content to go on.
Xerneas and Yveltal are extremely important to the Legendary Pokémon Pantheon, as they are the respective representatives of life and destruction. They are so powerful that a whole extra Pokémon must exist to balance them out, that being Zygarde (who is in itself so important to the world and its ecosystem that it travels all over the world whenever it is possibly needed).
The power of the Ultimate Weapon, the source of all Mega Evolution, is Xerneas and Yveltal. Yveltal’s life taking power is what caused the weapon to be so destructive, and Xerneas’s life giving power is what allowed it to resurrect the king’s Floette and grant said king eternal life. Without these two, Mega Evolution would have never happened, and as a consequence, the Hoenn region could potentially have been destroyed by a colossal meteor (Said meteor was only stopped because Rayquaza was able to Mega Evolve).
and let’s not forget that all life goes out if Yveltal dies

Oh I totally know all of that lol
I just meant they have no real reason to be there in the main plot of XY. Which is sad for Pokémon who have such cool concepts behind them.
