Ledge trumping with Mario is easy, exactly due to the ledge snapping properties of the Cape. Just walk off and then immediately reverse Cape to instantly ledge snap for the trump. As to avoid the accidental ledge snap with cape, I find it easier to grab the ledge first and then drop down Cape...

Mario is a solid choice. I play both Mario and Samus and they cover each other's bad MUs pretty well. And since you only want the character as a secondary, Mario isn't hard to pick up.

FLUDD-assisted landings are very good. It allows you to reset to the ledge safely, as any opponents approaching will be kept away. It's also good for on-stage landings. You don't need full FLUDD to do that though, I use it mostly with it half charged.

Mario main here. I feel Diddy beats Mario slightly, mainly because of his better neutral and kill setups. Banana can backfire if Mario capes it on reaction though.

Yet there are people in Smash 4 that support a stagelist with only BF/FD/SV (3 stages). I don't understand why they think it's a good idea...

I bet on matchup inexperience on Ally's part. Even though it was a 3-0, it never felt like Ally was overwhelmed by Abadango. I think the MU is even.

This matchup chart is outdated. The point of this thread is to update it with the current state of the meta. Mario's worst matchup is probably Rosalina. DK and Corrin give him some problems too.

Since it wasn't included in EVO's stagelist, big locals and regionals probably won't use it either.

That happened because the down throw was performed near the ledge, thus the collision was detected on Battlefield's wall instead of the ground. In other words, the Samus player teched the impact on the wall. You can't tech Mario's down throw on the ground.

Plus Greninja was buffed since Apex. Let's wait for Pound, because iStudying (Europe's best Greninja) is going. If he faces Ally in bracket, we can see the matchup in action at high level.

Thanks for the input! Next time I play with him, I'll save some replays. It's probably my Mario that was off that day. My Samus felt way better.

Mario is a very fundamental-based character already. I can also say that playing :4samus: helped me a lot to be more patient in neutral.

On top of my head, short hop bairs (well spaced), empty jumps into dash grab, full hop fireballs and the universal dash -> shield -> react to the opponent's action.

So I played against a fellow smasher friend and got destroyed by his Greninja. In 20 games, more or less, I won like 1. I struggled a lot to get in and, at higher percents, to get the kill. Then I went Samus and won without much trouble. He has matchup experience against both Mario and Samus...

Bayonetta is arguably the lamest MU for any character. Use fireballs and when you get close, grab. Combos have to be frame perfect, otherwise Bat Within kicks in. Not much to say about this, it's very very boring.
