I think Tomes would work very nicely as an item. Different elemental tomes would spawn on the field and whoever picks them up has the elemental effect of their attacks changed to the element they picked up. An example would be Mario's FLUDD being changed to a fire spitter or something.

This sounds like the most silly idea I've ever heard. Making the game like Melee would require SO MUCH MORE than just tweaking the hitstun and adding directional dodging.
