Sakurai is likely to put in fighters based on a variety of different reasons. But Nintendo are the ones deciding the DLC. And I would suspect that for most of them there are ulterior reasons for these picks. Either to strengthen bonds with 3rd parties or to promote a game on the Switch.

There's no anti-Western bias its just easier to work with people who speak the same language. So, generally speaking, Japanese characters are always more likely.

This is something to note. 9 times out of 10 a stage in Smash is usually the first level/area of a game. In most modern Kirby games the first levels are basically Green Greens over and over again. I suppose the exception would be in Planet Robobot with a mechanized Dreamland.

Capcom has so many great franchises that I'd be kind of disappointed if we got another Street Fighter character. Nothing against Chun Li but we only have 2 fighters left and I really just want to see more franchises added to Smash.
