I'd say no too. Wasn't the trailer's reasoning for why so many fighters are "spirits" that the light thing killed them all? Which included actual playable fighters too!

To be frank, anything Nintendo did so far involving online / multiplayer interactions felt kind of 5 years behind the status quo. I hope the system is well thought out to handle all irregularities.
