I hope they show off the amiibo in physical form tonight. If there's a giant, clear plastic stand hidden behind that shovel we'll know for sure he's in Smash.

If Shovel Knight really is already in development there's really no point in waiting until the ballot ends. It's not like a sudden influx of votes at the end of September is going to make them scrap all the work they've done on Shovel Knight so far.

If they only announce the amiibo tonight, the three months before it launches would be plenty of time to announce that its actually part of the Smash line. My only question is why would they do it this way? It's totally backward from how they normally do things and I don't see why they would...

Can you explain why people keep bringing this up? Why does this distinction matter? What are people trying to extrapolate from this?

People can't go around making unlicensed amiibo. Nintendo has to approve them. I'm not sure how this "Nintendo isn't making the Shovel Knight amiibo" thing is relevant.
