The Power of a Community Part Three: How to Grow

/v/ hates us, GameFAQs hates us... and for a while, I hated this place too. Well, I still do. Yet I'm still here. I don't know what else to say.

I hope Brawl DOES fail in the competitive scene aspect

If Brawl fails competitive-wise, I can't see Smash 4 doing much better. But that's just me. But this is Nintendo, and Sakurai made it clear that his motive was strictly anti-competitive. It almost makes me hope for a new director for the next installment. Almost.

Heavy Brawl as the competitive standard? EDIT: Could a pro post his/her opinion?

Oops. Sorry... I did it again. I can't read today, apparently. Anyway, we can agree on one thing: when we look at how much controversy the simple act of switching off items has sparked, it's obvious that there's going to be a lot more of that "YOU'RE NOT PLAYING THE GAME THE WAY IT'S...

Heavy Brawl as the competitive standard? EDIT: Could a pro post his/her opinion?

You must be joking. We're talking about competitive play in Smash Bros. It has nothing to do with competitive play in other games. I don't see a problem with it, really. If it works for competitive play, then why not? As I said before, there's no right or wrong way to play the game. They...

Heavy Brawl as the competitive standard? EDIT: Could a pro post his/her opinion?

I see what you mean now. I went overboard, my apologies. You're right of course, we are basing this on our knowledge of the Melee metagame.

Heavy Brawl as the competitive standard? EDIT: Could a pro post his/her opinion?

There is no "Melee mindset" involved. Fact is, the competitive aspect of Brawl is flawed. Camping is overpowered, and there are more options and benefits for defense as opposed to offense. That's why we're exploring the alternative, such as Heavy Brawl, which fixes these problems. This has...

Heavy Brawl as the competitive standard? EDIT: Could a pro post his/her opinion?

haha, oh you What does this have to do with Melee? Our goal here is to improve the competitive aspect of Brawl, not make a Melee 2.0. Simple as that. If we didn't like Brawl, then we wouldn't be trying to expand its competitive scene.

    Air-dodge to grab

You can also air-dodge into something like a d-smash or u-smash or f-smash. (if you tap the c-stick just before you land)

Panda's Discoveries! (New AT, Auto-RAR, and C-stick Neutrals) UPDATE: NAME DECIDED!

Very nice find. I don't see this being useful with any character except for Lucas in the future, but Lucas mainers will definitely become a force to be reckoned with. I experimented a bit (with Lucas of course), and found that if you combine the auto-RAR and the new unnamed AT (one right...

Short-hop air dodge (continuous)--perhaps not new, but an important technique.

No video, but I've tried this with two characters--Zero-Suit Samus and Marth--and I think repeated, short-hopped air dodges (anyone wanna abbreviate that?) might play a role in the future metagame of Brawl. Short-hopping is a lot easier this time around, so this is a breeze to pull off...

Vids of yesterday's Smash Bros Brawl tournament at WPI

Early negative reactions and impressions be ****ed... this guy speaks the truth. Best ****ing thing I've read (and seen) in a long time. My hope (and hype) for Brawl has been restored.

    Smash Bros a religion?

    ya it should

Learning from Level 9 Computers! (Advanced Airdodge Techniques)

I don't care who said they were still "weak" this time around... after watching those videos (samuraipanda's post, nicovideo), I think they've improved by quite a bit.

    Noir's Advance Technique/Reseach and Discussion.

From what I've seen in videos, even IF tripping is random, it doesn't seem to occur all that often. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it's pretty rare. Someone may correct me.

A thread to hopefully quell the madness. A look into Brawl and it's ATs

If this is true, then that's excellent news. :D It means that lag-cancelling is still present in some form, albeit it may be more troublesome to pull off. Great post, great view on things. I feel much more optimistic now.
