I can now officialy say that the 10th of November is the set date for ZEST3! Thanx for your huge interest for this tournament, i would've never thought it would be full in less than two days. I will contact the person in charge of the venue again to see if it is possible to get a little more people in there than 64.

Ok, hoe kom je tegenwoordig bij de zaal? zoals jullie inmiddels wel weten is Zoetermeer het beste bereikbaar vanuit den haag centraal en vanuit Utrecht Centraal. Voorheen was het echter dat ja naar station zoetermeer moest en dan het vervangend vervoer moest pakken (bus 3 of 4) om bij de zaal te komen. Dit kan nu echter niet meer omdat de randstad rail inmiddels rijd en het vervangenvervoer is opgeheven... dus hoe kom je nu bij de zaal?

Je kan nog steeds met de trein naar zoetermeer station komen vanuit den haag centraal en utrecht centraal, De intercity stopt echter niet meer in Zoetermeer (let hier dus goed op!). Het makkelijkste is dan om vanaf het station de randstadrail te pakken naar het station dat voor de zaal zit (Station seghwaert) Dit is RandstadRail lijn 3 richting loosduinen of richting Den haag centraal (afhankelijk van welk spoor je neemt, let hier ook goed op dat ie langs station seghwaert komt!). Vanuit Den Haag centraal kan je de RandstadRail ook direct nemen. Hier kan je dan gewoon de randstad rail richting zoetermeer, of richting loosduinen pakken. Voor zover ik weet stoppen ze allebei bij seghwaert.

Om het duidelijk te zien met reistijden enzo: ga dan even naar ov9292.nl en voer gewoon je station in waarvan je vertrekt, het adres van de zaal (zie hierboven) en een aankomsttijd van 11:00u op zaterdag 10 november.

Als je de weg kwijt bent of vragen hebt kan je me zaterdag natuurlijk altijd bellen op mn mobiel: 06 46 14 21 14

Het teams toernooi wil ik uiterst 12uur laten beginnen dus zorg dat je voor deze tijd aanwezig bent! In principe verwacht ik jullie om 11 uur zodat we tijd zat hebben om in te spelen en in te schrijven. Dit neemt namelijk ook nog best wat tijd in beslag

BEL ALSJEBLIEFT OOK ALS JE DENKT DAT JE TE LAAT KOMT. Een klein beetje te laat zal geen ramp zijn, maar als ik en niks van je hoor, en je bent veel te laat dan is je kans om mee te doen aan het toernooi sowieso verkeken. De zaal is net als vorige keer open voor iedereen vanaf 10:30u.

The Rules

Ok, after going over the discussions for the rules again i came up with this ruleset:

Rules for 1 vs 1:
Pouls+Double Elimination, best of 3. Best of 5 from quarter finals, best of 7 for winner's finals.
4 Stock, 8 minutes Stocktime
If the timer runs out the player with the most stock left wins. In case of a stock tie the player with the lowest percentage wins (so the Sudden Death does not count in this case). In case of a percentage tie the Sudden Death is played.
Items are off.

Poule rules: because there if a lot of misunderstanding with poules i wanna give some clear ground rules: of for some reason 2 players seem to have ended up in a tie we will review who wins in this order:
1. number of sets won, if this is a tie we will go to the second factor
2. total matches won, if this is also a tie we will go to the last factor
3. the winner of the set that the tied players played against eachother.
4. In case of a 3-way tie and the first 3 factors are all equal, there will be a rematch for those 3 players

At the start of each set both players will have the chance to ban one level for the entire set.

First match in a set the stage is either agreed upon or random.

LEVEL RULES

4 stages on random select: Fountain of Dreams, Pokémon Stadium, Final Destination, Dream Land N64

Counterpicks: Rainbow Ride, Yoshi’s Story, Mute City, Battlefield, Kongo Jungle N64.

stage bans: basicly every other level
the other levels are allowed if opponent AGREES to play it

The first match of a set both players are allowed to pick character, all following matches will be played with the use of Advanced Slob Picks (ASP). This means that after a match, the loser of the previous match anounces the stage (can also be random if you want to), then the winner of the previous match choses character, and finally the loser of the last match picks a character.

Daves Stupid Rule (DSR) is used.

Stalling tactics such as Peach bombering or rising pound are banned unless when used for recovery.

Rules for teams:
Team attack is on. Due to lag issues Fountain of Dreams will be replaced by Battlefield in the random stages.
All other rules are the same as 1 vs 1.

Staying in the winners bracket is more important than getting a bye. Having 32 man going through pools is just stupid, because there are often about 60 players, that's over half of the players. And 16 man advancing from pools is not enough.

First look at how much sets the players have won, this is the most important!

If two or more players are tied in sets the number of games count.

If the number of games is the same too you got to look at the individual results if two players are tied. And you got to play the matches over if 3 or more players are tied.

i totally agree with what ivo said about the pools... even though i don't really care what we decide (individual results or a rematch between the 2 tied players... since there was an issue about it at ZEST 2 with Savior and Trained Noob) i just want it to be clear BEFORE the tournament which way we want to go...

And yes indeed we need to determine the rules more clearly because there were too many issues about this at zest2 (especially with the stages) ill make a note of it in the first post that the rules need to be discussed as well.

a) dave's stupid rule is that you may not pick a stage you have won on last time (so if you won the first match on FD, then lose the second match, you cant pick FD again) or at least thats the way I know the rule
b) <3 lottery. but giving more tickets to higher placings doesnt seem a great idea because well isnt the idea of the lottery to reward people other than the ones that are winning stuff anyway? (money etc)
c) agrees with ivo on pools
d) disagrees with ivo on the brackets. 32 ppl in the brackets is just good. the only drawback is that a great percentage of the players get into the brackets (50% or so) but with the increase of (kindof) skilled players over the last few tournaments this is only fair. besides, more people in brackets means 1) more accurate measurement of skill 2) more fun for more people who after all paid good money to get in the tournament. and don't say 'they should just be better' because esp. for beginners it's quite hard to get to the top 32. by just taking the top 24 you risk omitting players who are good enough for brackets but got screwed over in their pools, for instance.
e) if you do it in the summer break, do take into account that there will always be smashers gone on holidays. and there's always AFC4 lurking around the corner
f) for counterpicking, i vote that the loser either picks character or stage and the winner doesnt get to pick anything. dont do advanced slob picks whatsoever please. a fox that loses and then can pick Peach AND mute city is kindof.. overpowered. not for me because I like to play peaches on mute city or peaches in general but thats some people's opinion and somewhat of a good examle.

Random stages: Final Destination, Dream Land 64, Fountain of Dreams, Pokémon Stadium
Counterpick stages: Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Mute City, Kongo Jungle 64
(a lot like ZEST 2's stages)

-Stage banning (each player gets to ban one out of those 8 stages before the set).
-Loser can counterpick both character and stage (with the above rules there isn't much room for overpowered counterpicks).
-No ASP.
-DSR can be used again.

Something like that imo.

During summer break would be pretty bad, since there will already be some other (international) tournaments and some people actually leave the country during their vacation. =p Some time soon after would be good, it'll be a good start for competitive SSBM's final season in the Netherlands (I also consider smashfests held during the summer as pretty much off the record for the power rankings).

Ik had het er net met Amsah over dat we wat goede opnameapparatuur in de community moeten hebben (sorry Rukker). Zelf heb ik er totaal geen ervaring mee, maar misschien dat iemand weet wat de opties zijn? Op zichzelf staande apparatuur schijnt iets van 400 euro te zijn, maar aangezien we altijd wel een laptop in de buurt hebben zijn er vast ook goedkopere opties (capture card & scart splitter). Zijn er mensen die hier meer van weten? Zijn er mensen bereid om iets bij te dragen voor dergelijke apparatuur (5-10 euro bijvoorbeeld)? Misschien dat Exalador iets kan regelen en de kosten (deels) uit de entry fee terug kan halen? Discuss!

met die serie kabeltjes/pluggen split je het signaal uit de gamecube, eentje naar de tv en eentje naar het opname-ding (dvd-speler bijvoorbeeld)

Dan moeten we er ter vervanging commentaar bij doen, net als ze op die MLG toernooien in Amerika deden. Het commentaar in die video's is te droog. Ik wil dat wel doen samen met Steven

Anyway, ik denk ook dat de zomervakantie geen goed idee is. Je hebt al een internationaal toernooi met RoS4, daarna AFC4, ik en Stevens all-round toernooi, ik zal vast ook nog wel Ushost 3 organiseren en aan het einde van de zomervakantie misschien het grote n00b toernooi van WiiDS. Wie weet komen daar ook nog andere toernooien bij zoals TNOT2 en er gaan uiteraard ook nog mensen op vakantie, dus dan lijkt het programma me druk genoeg Ik denk dat bijvoorbeeld de herfstvakantie, of misschien iets daarvoor een mooie tijd zou zijn. Bovendien komt het dan ook niet zo snel na ZEST2.

Er is een verschil tussen glitches, exploits gebruiken en de Action Replay erbij pakken omdat je te focking lui bent om een beetje degelijke Pokemon te breeden. En sinds wanneer speel jij Pokemon?

Besides, eigenlijk boeit het me geen reet wat voor een Pokemon ie gebruikt, zolang ie er maar moeite voor moet doen. Wat dat betreft, is Netbattle perfect. Voor beiden partijen geen gezeik over IV's, EV's en wat niet, gewoon gelijk battlen.

En wat doet het er ook toe eigenlijk, dit is echt het laatste waar ik over wil discussieren.

Oh, en voordat ik het vergeet, Marc, wat voor response verwacht je precies over het record verhaal? =P

Zodra NetBattle geupgrade is naar D/P ben ik ook weer weg van Wi-Fi, sowieso vind ik die friend codes erg omslachtig. En de link naar Sirlin was een voldoende antwoord op dat sentimentele verhaaltje. =p Als je er nog een rationele mannendiscussie over wilt voeren, weet je me te vinden.

Wat ik verwacht als reactie op het opneemverhaaltje... Mogelijkheden, enthousiasme, redenen waarom wel/niet, mensen die zeggen dat ze willen bijdragen eraan etc. Het lijkt zo iig niet alsof er veel animo is. Overigens is dit niet echt mijn project, maar meer iets wat ik de groep in gooi.

Nog niet al te veel mensen hier, aangezien het nog niet uit is in de PAL regio. Een echt goede toernooiscene heeft het nooit gehad, alleen online.

4: Ik denk dat je het beste Zest3 in een kleine vakantie kan doen, dan gaan er minder mensen weg, en dan is er niet de druk van werk/school, en kan het langer duren.
Universiteiten etc hebben alleen minder vakanties.

Leuk idee, maar het moet wel haalbaar zijn (financieel vooral).
