ZeRo, M2K Among Those Featured in The Guinness World Records 2017 Gamer's Edition

Guinness World Records 2017: Gamer’s Edition was released earlier this week, and with it some records you may or may not have expected to have seen. Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios and Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman both equally grace our community with their appearances within, and by doing so set an impressive milestone in the world of Smash. The two of them have shaped and influenced our community in the same remarkable way, but each has made his respective impact differently. These records greatly exemplify this, and below we provide each one, alongside some other fun and obscure records from across the series.

Most eSports tournament results (Single player): Mew2King

"U.S Super Smash Bros. supremo "Mew2King" (aka Jason Zimmerman) had achieved 'top prize' finishes in 339 pro eSports tournaments, as of 11 February 2016, amassing earnings of $141,488. His bio at eSportsearnings reveals that his gaming style relies on an in-depth testing of game mechanics, including character weight, knockback and physics."

Longest winning streak in Super Smash Bros. tournaments: ZeRo

"Between Nov 2014 and Oct 2015, Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios (CHL, below) won an incredible 53 tournaments in a row on Super Smash Bros. for Wil U (Nintendo, 2014). The ace's winning streak ended at the MLG World Finals on 18 Oct 2015, when he was defeated by American gamer Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada."

Largest Super Smash Bros. Tournament

"An epic 1,926 gamers competed on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (2014) at the EVO Championship Series at the Bally's/Paris Las Vegas Casino in Nevada, USA, on 17-19 Jul 2015, making it the biggest contest of its kind. Its title was won by Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios (CHL, below right)."

Highest number of words in a Super Smash Bros. Brawl Fan-fiction

"3.5 million: Number of words in Super Smash Bros. fan-fiction The Subspace Emissary's Worlds Conquest by AuraChannelerChris."

Most Knockouts on Super Smash Bros. Melee

"On 16 May 2015, 'anthony11293', aka Jeremy Anthony (USA), achieved an amazing 56 KOs in a single match in St Louis, Missouri, USA. A Super Smash Bros. Melee specialist, he snatched the record from Shawn Alvarez (USA), who had set the previous best of 42 KOs just 13 days earlier."

Strongest Recorded Hit in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Without Items)

"In a YouTube video published on 3 Sep 2015, the Austrian team known as "Beefy Smash Doods" demonstrated a mammoth strike that inflicted 158% of damage. The intricate combo lasted 8 sec and involved four players in an orchestrated move in which an airborne log was swatted with a baseball bat - twice!"

EVO 2016 was bigger
Came to post this. They must need a significant amount of time to gather up all the records they wanted to include, get their graphic artists in there, and then print the books themselves.

I'm also curious what the criteria was for that "most KOs" record. They say a match, but what rules were they following? And couldn't someone game that system by coordinating with 3 friends to act as punching bags for the 4th?

I don't understand the most knockouts record, isn't that something anyone can easily do?
I'm sure there are conditions for that one, I just don't know what they are, otherwise yeah you can set a 99-life game or a very very very long time game to beat that. I'm certain there's more to that.

Personally I'd like to know about that longest Smash session record SmashBoards reported earlier.

it's not fair to feature m2k begause he is a robot. i am not robocist or robophobic but i think that they should have their own quinness book

The other day, to unlock the "More Rules" in Brawl for a school tourney (which requires 200 KOs, I was at 140), I played a 60-stock match against a level 1 Jigglypuff as Snake. Am I a Guinness World Record breaker?

That record is so vague, I swear

The Subspace Emissary Worlds Conquest actually has over 4 million words now, and is not not just the longest smash fan-fic, but the longest piece of english literature ever written.
