I know for sure that it wasn't a thing when I transferred my custom sets from my 3DS to my Wii U and that was like early Decemberish.

Or maybe I'm blind and missed that somehow, despite transferring like 100 sets.

edit: Apparently, this became a thing when the Lucas DLC dropped on the 14th.

I did it a few days after the Wii u version was released because my friend didn't have the gcn adapter. I'm 100% sure it came with released, but I've never been wrong before, so you never know

They released a thing on the eshop that allows you to use the 3ds as a controller even if you don't have smash 3ds running.

I meant the little button that says "Smash Controller" and in little letters, "If you don't own SSB4 for the 3DS".
I know that you've been able to use your 3DS as a controller since the beginning, but now you don't need to have the game to do it. I was wondering how long that was a thing.
