I thought it would be fun to have a discussion about this based on this template I found (I Will leave a blank template below if anyone wants to make their own). Here are the categories:
- Most wanted newcomer
- Most wanted retro character
- Most wanted third-party character

I will be counting votes every once in a while, I will be leaving mine with explanations so expand if you want to read
Most wanted newcomer
Isaac from Golden Sun: I think the golden boi has the best chance he has ever had, with Sakurai hinting at the game through the Rathalos image and confirming he is actually taking the ballot results into account for Smash Ultimate
Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask: Again, I think he has a good chance of making it in, he could make for a great rep for Zelda (franchise that didn't get any newcomer in Sm4sh), he is unique, he is memorable and he is popular. And he also has the hints from the direct in his favor and his AT disappearance.
Most wanted retro character
Lip from Panel de Pon: I'd love for the retro character to be a girl this time around and is actually the only retro character I am interested aside from Takamaru (who got deconfirmed again) but I don't think her chances are very good, her stick is back as item, also she was originally Japan only so I am guessing maximum AT status for her.
Most wanted third party
Hunter from Monster Hunter Series: I think a hunter could be a very unique character addition to the roster, it could have an interesting moveset and also Capcom and Nintendo have been in good terms, with MHGU coming to Switch and it being one of the biggest series Capcom has right now I think it could have a chance. The thing against this is Rathalos being announced without any hints to a hunter.
Banjo & Kazooie from Banjo-Kazooie: If Sakurai has proven anything in this installment so far is that he can do anything and he is listening to the fans, with Banjo and Kazooie being one highly requested character and Rare people saying they would be fine with having him in the game this is the best chance he has had since Rare sold themselves to Microsoft.
Most wanted indie rep
Shantae from Shantae series: She is a great candidate for indie representation if it ever gets to Smash, she has plenty of games and is easily the indie series that has appeared more times in Nintendo consoles, with one game reaching the Switch and a fairly unique moveset opportunity I think she is the best option for indie games.
Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt: The game was greatly received, with the original and the sequel on Nintendo consoles and a third game announced for Switch I believe he is got a good chance on his hands if Nintendo wants to add Indie representation to the game.
Most wanted echo fighters
Impa from The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword as an echo to Sheik: Skyward sword is one of the main Zelda games left without representation, I think Impa could make for a good echo fighter, she is the one of the recurring character (aside from Vaati and Skull Kid) from Zelda that haven't gotten in and she could have some different things like weaponry and also could take from OoT or even Hyrule Warriors appearance.
Big Boss (Naked Snake) from Metal Gear Solid saga as an echo to Solid Snake: Not very likely but with Solid back in the game, Big Boss could make a great echo to add representation to Metal Gear, he is the only other MGS protag to have appeared on a Nintendo console (not that it is a rule, with Cloud being in the game) and the only other Snake to have done so aside from Solid and Liquid from Twin Snakes. He could get different weapons.
Least wanted newcomer
Any anime character: I just don't think it fits the game very well and I believe it makes the game lose a bit of the essence of a videogame crossover. Aside from that, any newcomer is a good newcomer!
Will Never happen but I want to
Urbosa from The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: As much as I love her and I would appreciate female gerudo representation, I think it is not likely she will be in, with Link taking his BOTW appearance and Urbosa being a champion from 4, she doesn't really have much on her to make the cut, and she certainly doesn't have any more evidence that any of ther other champions.
Anyone from Girls Mode/Style Savvy : I put Alina because I like her style, is cute and stuff but it could be anyone. I'd like this to be the unexpected rep from this game, with Style Savvy being a recurrent game on Nintendo's handhelds since the DS it would be a fun unexpected rep (kind of like what Wii Fit Trainer was for Sm4sh).
Most wanted bosses
Not really a reason for these aside that I like them so Calamity Ganon, Fusion Dragon from Golden Sun and Yaldabaoth from Xenoblade Chronicles
