my question to smashers is how should we handle, (omg my hands have a lot of veins) the flood of the new, of course we want them to exp a great time in smash like ourselves, but after evo I think we can all agree there has been a flood of new players I've dubbed year of the scrub.

there is no solid way to ensure we can keep each person with interest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1, without being personalty there to help them step by step, which we can agree to degree wouldn't even always be the best course of actions.

I think we need to refine our system of training/recruiting/ensuring growth. how I see it is

1st step
info. we spread word by reddit, online, word of mouth, videos and etc. mlg/evo reaches to other branches of competitive pl,ayer which easier to get into our community.

2nd we need to do what other gaming groups aren't doing, and that is accepting everyone, this isn't that big of an issue but sire updates interviews tend to have spoken for women in the sense that they aren't given enough respect, I understand how nice it is to be being given the freedom to say, hey no one knows how I really am in person, but sometimes You gotta man up and respect for the better of a people/group that You believe in, and even as a guy i,ve been very uncomfortable with some smashers. either for a guy saying omg i cummed myself falcon punch me where I quit playing cause or a guy who thought he was cool talking mad **** in an elevator about how i,m an idiot cause I main pichu, and wasn't bold enough tp not whisper it, some people need to step up.

this said I enjoy humor on a real twisted personal level and wish shows like drawn together weren't so held back, yeah if You've seen it You understand my humor and I wish there was more of it, not not at a professorial level, but least with people who are comfortable

3rd if we can make people feel comfortable and build local smash groups, we need not only a more formal way to teach but a way to increase growth. in Indianapolis i,m trying to build hype for smash shirts while my buddy set up a ranking system. we need to find these niches and pull them out.

I mean I think we have all seen the increase in help me threads, maybe we need a personal video where someone tells about how they struggled with _____ or myself have another scrub filmed showin how hard of a time they had learning _________. if someone shares our pain we till to listen more and could be key to reaching a faster rate of learning for our new smashers.

4th once we have a system down for gaining new players I think we need to have goals along the lines of how can we improve, future goals, like more combo video awards or find ways to support smash projects like melee online, melee hacks, internationals, or to have more say with nintendo.

either way I think we as a huge need a better system for taking in new players and to custom goals, thoughts???

Smash community definitely has room for improvement for taking all player groups (hyper-sensitives, females) into account. Regarding the humor, I think that rather than trying to enforce rules on what to say and what not to say, we should be more conscious in general how the way we act and speak affects those around us. I'm a sensitive person and sometimes it really sucks because playing Melee is really hard on my self-esteem which makes me quite vulnerable to things that people say. Sometimes sarcastic & humorous things said make me feel hurt and angry. If I could change the way I feel in certain situations I would, but I can't. But it means so much if the other person acknowledges the fact that something they said & did offended me. I know what I'm saying sounds arrogant and douchy, but even if you can't relate to it yourself, the way you talk & act affects everyone around you. Take responsibility and don't be a ****ing jerk, and if you are, apologize.

There are two important elements that should be taken into account when considering this topic.

1.) Playing competitive Smash is more than a mere hobby. People invest so much of their time and effort into getting good at this game, so it's natural that they also invest their emotions & aspirations also. Smash is serious, we play to win. Winning is fun, losing is not. Perhaps some people get a sense of accomplishment despite losing several matches in a row, I don't. If I don't win there's absolutely no reason for me to be happy about my performance. I can do better, and I should.

2.) The smash community is very diverse in regards of people. I don't know if this is true for every game scene but I've never met such a weird bunch of different people coming together to do something than in my local Smash scene. The sheer reality is, that without the game (factor of common interest), these people would never ever hang out in real life or do things together. Sometimes you have people of polar opposites, which makes it really challenging for each individual to understand the other. Worse yet, some people are simply indifferent and do not care about how their actions & words affect others. Bottom line, when very different people spend a lot of time doing something together, problems will arise without proper etiquette.

I've had such a negative experiences in the scene that if I wasn't addicted to playing Smash, I would've quit.

Still really hung over from last night but, i think it's all really a degree of common sense which i'll admit i sometimes lack. But just know someone before You fire off.

But at kk what are some thoughts on how we should go about it is my main question? Maybe a stream ofpositive reinforcement at the lower levels. Like CoD games give You right away rewards maybe we can make a self ranking yo make people feel better/want to get past those hurdles.

Many people quit at this level and it's a harder part to get past
