Is it too late to link to the Wikipedia articles for Microeconomics, Echo chamber, Hanlon's Razor, and confirmation bias?

But seriously, I really don't think Microsoft is "evil" or going to reimplement the DRM policy once they get an install base. That's PR suicide. If it was such a bad idea in the first place, why would they try it again, and on the same console no less?

Well, of course it's PR suicide to do it all at once. That's why you slowly and sneakily incorporate it 1 feature at a time over an extended period so that people don't notice and by the time they do, they've already got a bunch of games.

I don't think slowly and sneakily would exactly work on millions of consoles in the age of the internet. Come on, man, someone would notice. Microsoft really isn't headed by some mustachioed villain sneering and out to get you (Ballmer's out, after all). It's not gonna happen. If it does, hit me up, and I'll PayPal you a buck.

Seems that GCHQ and the NSA have been collecting images from Yahoo's webcam service. Here's a link to the article.

Yahoo webcam images from millions of users intercepted by GCHQ

It also appears they had plans to expand to the Kinect spycam.
While the documents do not detail efforts as widescale as those against Yahoo users, one presentation discusses with interest the potential and capabilities of the Xbox 360's Kinect camera, saying it generated "fairly normal webcam traffic" and was being evaluated as part of a wider program.

im getting an xbox one cause i have nothing to hide anyway
If you insist on letting the NSA spy on you in the privacy of your own home at least show the restraint to wait until the Xbox One's price drop. Rumor has it that Microsoft will have to lower the price of the XB1 to make it competitive with the PS4 that's presently selling like hot cakes. Look how much of a lead the the PS4 and the Wii U have on the XB1 already.

$399 Xbox One without Kinect launching in June

"New version of Xbox One going on sale next month; standalone Kinect will be available this fall; "Kinect remains an important part of our vision," Microsoft says."

Microsoft could offer me a night with Nina Dobrev and a free T-bone steak and I still wouldn't be interested in the Xbox One. This gen it's all PS4 and Wii U for me.

It appears that Microsoft squandered precious time with the bone-headed Kinect 2.0 experiment. If something truly spectacular isn't shown for the Xbox One at E3 then the console is for all intents and purposes dead. Sony has built a near insurmountable lead with the PS4 and the Wii U is just about to hit its stride with a couple of it's most revered franchises. The XB1 needed to hit the ground running but instead it tripped over its own feet.

"Dead" is a bit strong. Both the Xbox and the GameCube got utterly BLASTED by the PS2 two gens ago, and both of their respective producers are doing fine now. It will probably never overtake the PS4, but MS isn't out of the console business by a long shot. Speaking of E3, I'd say MS actually has a couple interesting things coming down the pipeline in the form of Platinum's new title and a reboot of Phantom Dust. What's more, their press conference was actually entirely about video games. I'd say they listened, and I think Phil Spencer, the new head of Xbox, might not actually be a completely disconnected suit like Mattrick was. Time will tell.

Also, as far as your NSA ramblings go, you have literally no more reason to believe the Kinect is a method by which the NSA is spying on you than a Wii U, 3DS, or PS Vita, all of which have UNREMOVABLE cameras and microphones on them. I am as disgruntled with the state of privacy in the United States as anyone, but there is no reliable information to suggest that Xbox Live or any Kinect capturing are included among the metadata the United States has been seizing, unconstitutionally or otherwise.

Don't have or plan to get an Xbox One, but going back to 360 for a second, Metal Gear Rising is amazing.

That is pushing the level of believablilty... We know the NSA has infilatrated online gaming, World of Warcraft and Xbox Live by name:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-12-09-nsa-gchq-can-listen-to-xbox-live-chat-communications

3DS doesn't budget constant RAM and OS space for its camera... Xbox One does, though I believe the number is being reduced. 3DS also has a slider that lets you turn off any online communications at any time.

Paying an extra $100 for a tangibly less powerful console with a camera most people didn't trust or want was absurd. Now that they're the same price at least Xbox exclusives like Sunset Overdrive can be held up against Sony's offerings. There was lots of reason for people not to pay $100 for a camera they didn't want for it to take up console resources and invade their privacy.

Hmm, I never saw any articles that said Xbox Live was a target. I'm not surprised, I just hadn't seen any. Saddening and corrupt, but not a convincing reason not to use the device. The NSA also tracks my cell phone and internet usage (among countless other things), but I'm not about to stop using either of those. I'm utterly indignant that information I send privately across either medium is being seized illegally, but stopping using them is senseless. We should fight the NSA and stage protests. Letting them keep us from proceeding with our lives is destructive to the economy and deepens the myriad negative effects of PRISM.

Having said all that, my Kinect has been unplugged for most of the time I've had the Xbone. I just don't think it's any worse than any of the million other ways the NSA is tracking me. If you think the Kinect is a gimmick that's not worth 100 bucks, that's fine. You don't have to convince me its an Orwellian telescreen or that cutting it out of one's life will appreciably protect one from the NSA.

The inclusion of the kinect and the decision to make it such a central piece of the "Xbox experience" was certainly a misstep. I'm not going to defend it. However, it's also worth noting that Xbox has a new head, Phil Spencer, who is demonstrably interested in making Xbone a more games oriented platform than his predecessors, and I think he made that pretty clear with the E3 conference they gave this year, which was 100% games. Sure, 25% of that may have been Halo, which I don't really care about, but it was all video games nevertheless. Nintendo definitely won E3 in my eyes (which is pretty much always the case), and Sony's conference was no pushover, but I think MS is headed in the right direction with Spencer. Time will tell.

Then again, I got the Xbone because it had Dead Rising (which is now coming to PC, shrug) and was confirmed to have Metal Gear, so I didn't have to worry about missing out on that. I plan on getting a PS4 probably after its first price drop, I'd imagine, but I may wait even longer. Last gen, the number of worthwhile exclusives on both the PS3 and 360 were pathetic. There was no reason to own both until the very end of last gen, when you could get whichever one you didn't have for dirt cheap and enjoy the few exclusives you missed. Just the state of the industry these days, though!

I get a kick out of pundits who claim that the Halo franchise will help Microsoft sell more Xbox Ones. Most fans moved on after the disaster that is Halo 4. Man, that game is awful.

Long time Halo fans are generally more excited about Bungie's Destiny which is also coming to the last gen consoles and the PS4.

I'm surprised how dead this thread is, XboxOne is **** but the 360 had alot to offer in it's time, though later titles are now really bad, Wii Shovelware bad. I enjoyed playing several games on it such as Bayonetta, Payday 2, Dust an Elysian Tale, Shadow Complex (The demo, $15 for one game? **** that, **** that in the ass), Hitman Absolution, South Park the Stick of Truth and many more titles not available on Wii and even Wii U. The Online also is much better then Wii and Wii U's as well, with a thriving online community you can play friends with.

Plus if you don't have one people don't come over to your house and only have a Wii (Nintendo systems are the side system you have with your main system and aren't good mains), you're left behind when it comes to several game series (Final Fantasy, Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto, Tekken with the exception of Tag 2) and the occasional exclusive (Alan Wake, Halo, tons of Indie games not counting the ****ty Indie section).

There was also DLC, giving games longer life if done right, downloads are much faster (10-15 minutes to download an SNES title? My PC can do it in half a second and it's about 10 years out of date if you don't count the few upgrades we installed 5 years ago), you can talk to your friends through Xbox Parties (Something Wii U oddly enough doesn't have and Wii only had with Animal Crossing), truly, I'm disappointed, people should give 360 more respect, it's not Microsoft's fault there are kids worse then Miiverse members on wifi.

This guy is the reason Xbox dashboard has ads. And he's sorry:
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/hate-xbox-dashboard-ads-the-man-responsible-says-h/1100-6421775/

I hope they'll let gold members disable them someday...I hate seeing ads everywhere.
Xbox One doesn't have ads on the dash. For now anyway. I mean, the store icons list new releases, but that's not any different from what PlayStation does.

It is pretty ridiculous that a paid service has ads. The ones with audio on 360 were the worst.

Yeah, Microsoft really should have seen the Xbone's PR disaster coming, especially by revealing the many ways they ended up dooming the Xbone to gamers; the DRM (which they later revoked in a vain attempt to save face), required Kinect (which they also later revoked to try and save face), the horrendous indie support (or, well, lack thereof) and the worst of it all was their conference revealing it focusing on going "Hey, it's not a game console, it's an all-in-one machine!", as if trying to wow the investors and not their fanbase.

Doesn't help that it's generally considered the worst console of this generation; not in specs, obviously, but the absolutely awful way Microsoft handled the controversial aspects basically doomed the Xbone to failure from launch.

Agree completely and that's why I've gone with the PS4/Wii U combo this time around.

You do realize that the NSA doesn't care about what porn you jack off to and what time and what features your genitalia has.... Right? Their job is to watch surveillance of terrorists and stop the plotting of potential terror attacks as well as keep an eye on criminals. Hence the name National 'SECURITY' Agency. Xbox One is still a great console never the less and I'd go as far as to say it is better than PS4 and Wii U Hardware Wise, but Wii U has the better games at the moment. It wouldn't be surprising to hear some leaker telling people that all of our houses are tapped with nano microphones because it doesn't bother me none. They're not telling you how to live your lifestyle and not intruding into your life physically or mentally. Privacy is an illusion because everything you do leaves a mark and the ability to read the truth from lie within your brain is not too far away and is happening very very fast.

my 360 is a netflix machine, which i guess is still better than the dust/cobweb gatherer that my wii u has been relegated to
Mines have been collecting dust as well and i said i would't let that happen :p.

There is still lots of games i need to get to on there but my xbox one had been keeping me busy.
I just finished sunset overdrive and now i am on Forza horzion 2 and Dead Rising 3. Then when summer hits and i am free of my classes, I can no life Dragon age.

So I bought a Western Digital 2 TB hard drive for my XOne awhile back. I just wasn't happy with the current space the system had, and I knew I had to get an external hard drive eventually. I'm happy with my purchase. Now I'm confidant I'll never run out of space, and it runs really smoothly too!
Kind of ironic, because as soon as I bought it, I found out MS releases a 1 TB console. That should be plenty of space, but for the long run, I think a 2 TB hard drive is a more suitable size for the larger games it has to hold nowadays.

Depending on the drive you bought there's a good chance that games will actually load faster off of the external drive. I bought a 4 TB drive a while back and noticed some pretty solid load time improvements. I now just have everything install to my external drive and mostly only use that.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed the shorter loading times as well. It's nothing substantial, but it's a nice perk.

I find it sad that my main reason for getting an Xbone would be Rare Replay...a collection of old Rare games...

I think that says something about...well, something.
