Would it be possible to change shield and blast line colors for team battles?

A few days ago I noticed that shield and blast line colors matched your player port regardless of team battle settings.
Then yesterday I figured out that by playing against CPUs, you can set colors to always be the same as player number regardless of team battle settings.

I haven't been able to replicate it again. Can anybody see what's up?
