I am an indie iOS developer who loves to play Smash and wanted to get an idea of what the community thought about a Smash style game on mobile phones and tablets. Obviously this would require a controller to be the most fun - luckily apple is supporting controllers for their devices soon - http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-31747_...s-7-welcoming-game-controllers-is-a-big-deal/

I just wanted to get a feel for the market demand of Smash on a mobile platform...I know Nintendo is making Smash for 3DS but the phone market is also very vast.

Please let me know your thoughts and if you would support such an idea hypothetically on Kickstarter.

Thanks guys!

You can just port Super Smash Flash to iOS. (Or any other similar type of game.)

What were your plans for this if you were to go through with it? Would it be in 2-D like the other games readily available?

I would be making the game from scratch and making it available on the apple and android stores. Yes the game would definitely be 2D. It would be much like Super Smash Bros and Smash Flash in mechanics. The characters would not be Nintendo owned for legal reasons, although they might parody current Smash characters. The game would support controllers as well as local multiplayer.

It's funny that I came across this thread, because I've often thought about a Smash-like game on a phone with controller support. If you weren't looking to make money off this I'd say just help the McleodGaming team code Super Smash Flash 2 on mobile.

Are we talking new characters or are you going to try and get big names from mobile devices?

If it's the first I'll DL it and have a go if it's cheap...

If it's the latter I have been thinking of such a game (though with it's own mechanics) for the past few weeks, and would be interested in talking about each others plans.
I mean seriously who wouldn't want to play a game where you can make Crazy Dave team up with Fruit Ninja's Sensei to fight Decendant (Infinity Blade) and Lili on a super hexagon stage?!

With games like Crayon Physics, Worms Reloaded, Contre Jour, Candy Crush and Angry Bird among the myriad of huge titles you could use for characters/stages it'd be a great platform for the game... the difficulty comes that, as an indie team, it would be very difficult to get the rights for most of the big names...

It would however likely be a hit on Kickstarter if we can get something going..
