The resting King Dedede shook himself awake. Somebody was smacking his door as though a murderer was behind them, clearly unconcerned with the time.

Yawning, Dedede lurched from the comfort of his bed and towards the cold unfamiliarity of the doorknob. Yanking it open, the culprit of the ruckus was Shulk, waiting expectantly. Dedede barely knew the kid, but pieced together what he had learned and assumed Shulk had seen something horrible. Unusual, given the calm nature of Smashville and its surrounding area, but the kid looked so shaken Dedede had no choice but to lend him an ear.

Shulk started to explain a dreadful dream he had just experienced, once chairs were out and coffee was served. He claimed to have perceived the very sun and moon themselves turning their backs on that world and destroying it, scattering the remains as they saw fit. It was extremely cheesy and almost childish, De thought through a glazed expression. But just before he had fallen back asleep, Shulk mentions having awoken with the Monado in an iron grasp. That magical sword has never lied once.

Dedede sat up and stared at the kid, unsure whether to laugh at this tale or take his fears seriously. The sun and moon are no strangers to combat, De knew firsthand. But against humanity itself? Fully awoken, the Dreamland King leapt out of his chair and examined the skyline. Sure enough, the moon was resting in the skyline, fading from the light of the approaching dawn. Don't look too frightenin', by itself; no threat ever makes itself known though, Dedede reckoned.

Returning to his seat, King Dedede considered how to respond to this unknown threat threatening the lovely World of the Light. He suggested having the strongest Fighters, such as Zelda or that mean witch Bayonetta, combat the entity, but Shulk vehemently denied the effectiveness of fighting that thing. If this kid had (supposedly) fought gods and won, but still fears this "sun", sheer power is worthless against it, De presumed. But would trickery work against this entity…?

After some digging under his bed, the King pulled out a box of plastic pins bearing his face- a Dedede Brooch.

De's eyes fell on Shulk, who was as lost as a Waddle Dee on the Halberd. Lucky kid didn't have to go through Tabuu's reign of terror on the World of the Light. Few did, thankfully. It sure was a gift Villager came and built Smashville after that chaos, society would have collapsed without his fierce work as a leader.

Once Shulk had come to learn what those brooches were, he quickly understood what De was thinking. A plan to defeat the enemy by losing… a bold and risky idea. Shulk still felt anxious about this plot, but reluctantly agreed to support it- it was the only way.

. . .

Creeping sunlight from the window found itself on De's face, awakening him from what little sleep he'd gotten. It was still early, too early for the sun and moon's supposed attack, yet too late to go back to sleep. He sighed, pulling out a handful of brooches.

He and Shulk had agreed to only let the strongest fighters use these, else too are awakened and the entity learns it hasn't done its conquest perfectly. A second attack would decimate all hope as well as the surviving fighters. Part of him still hoped to give them to his closest friends, so in the event Shulk failed to distribute the emblems he and his friends would still be alive.

It was a foolish pipe dream, he was well aware. To survive an apocalypse and save everyone else. It is too selfish and risky, De sighs. Putting the box and its brooches away, he prays that this is merely a bad dream of Shulk's part. So many new fighters were coming today, and it's a possibility they could be killed for good should they not receive their trophy stand in time…

He shoves those thoughts away and prepares for the second round of newcomers.

Notice- Part One will come tomorrow. I was struck by a supercell storm earlier today (about noon) and only now got power back. I don't have enough time without staying exceedingly late for this, so it will come tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience, to the invisible crowd reading this
