Women's World Cup 2011

I most certainly am. Since the men's team couldn't get the job last year, and they failed in teh CONCAF, I am definitely rooting for the women's team.
With that being said, the game between Equator Guinea and Australia was a joke. That BLATANT handball resulted in EG scoring a goal. Thankfully, Austrailia won, but if they are ousted cause of Goal Differential...smh.
Seriously, how does no ref see a player holding the ball in her hands for 3 seconds? I mean, we talk about the NBA refs being corrupt or bias...this was just...wow.

now you know how the US mens team felt in the last world cup.... im suprised they advanced with the anti-american bias the refs were showing on the field.

It's football, this **** happens. Refs and officials screw up a lot, it isn't anti American bias, that's reserved for the fans.
Oh and Germany will win because the German women never lose.

Both games from yesterday were so epic. Japan's goal coming so late in extra time was fun to watch. I'm glad we're guaranteed a new champion this WC.

I expected the US to win tbh. In the first 10 minutes I saw the game the US had already nearly scored like 4 times and Japan's defense was terrible

wow the US choked this one away hardcore, however when u dont capitalize on your 50 scoring opportunities to Japan's like 3... u keep the lil guy in it. Great game by both squads, Japan showed some serious heart and determination, huge underdog story and win (seriuosly, japan looked completely outmatched in this game.... im pretty sure i just witnessed one of the few miracles in sports)

Funny how all soccer fans don't hate Hope Solo though. There's plenty of comparisons to be drawn. I honestly don't know what that says about the sports' respective fan bases.
Personally I didn't care who won. Japan winning made the world a better place IMO, since Japanese people needed something to cheer about much more than we did. Of course I have US bias, so it balanced out.
I like watching soccer at lower levels more. It seems like the better the players get, the campier it becomes. They should try a smaller field with 9 to a side (along with a whole bunch of other fixes.)

Haha true, but at least I'll take getting swept by the eventual champions compared to missing 3 straight PK kicks with the third one being the worst. Especially if it's on the biggest stage of women's sport.
And that first goal allowed by US was inexcusable. You don't clear the ball out by kicking it TOWARDS the goal. You clear it out by kicking the ball away >_<. She didn't even need to kick it out, given Hope was right there to grab it.
Honestly though, I have seen a lot of hate on Hope Solo, but I think that's coming more from uh...irrational fans to say the least. I put more blame on the defenders than anything else =/.
US got its share of opportunities, but overall, the Japanese defense made it where USA had to take tough shots compared to the high quality shots Japan took for the most part.
I watched Japan play vs Germany, and I can say their style of "possession game" works so well, because of the goalie they have. She deserves a lot of credit.
Finally, I read that the average salary for the Women's National team is around 60 k lol.

I thought she should have saved that third Japanese PK. Skurry or w/e would have got there.
The first goal seemed bad, but not inexcusable. I can see maybe the defenders thought they could control the ball well enough to maintain possession, not knowing how close the Japanese player was. I played goalie for my city team for a year, and I gotta say that drives me nuts though.
Imma reserve judgment on their goalie for now. She played really well, but I don't see how you can be 5'7" and unathletic and still be able to punch out tough shots. For me, she needs to be tested more.

Edit: Numbers I think you need to realise the pressure of a World Cup final.
