Laz is bad at Smash

Okay, forgive me if there's an easy fix for this, since google didn't help.
So I'm playing New Game+ and last closed the file while in the Base area (the one with Dr. Wily and 9/18 volt) and when I open it up again, the screen drifts far away from where my character is into the void outside the base's walls and gets totally stuck. All the buttons become unresponsive (I checked, and it isn't a controller issue) and the only way to exit the file is to close the game. This happens every time I boot the file up.
Has this happened to anyone else, and is there a way to fix it? I can't make any progress because of this.
