About a year ago, I had a nice purple Nintendo-brand Gamecube controller that I used all of the time...but it broke. Ever since, I've been using a black Brand-X controller (it's Madcatz) with sticking buttons, horrible lag, and the inability to do Smash attacks unless I literally smash the control stick.

The question I have is whether or not it'd be worth it to buy a brand-new controller off of Nintendo, or to just use the Wiimote/Nunchuck/Classic set up.

I know a lot of people are going to be using the Gamecube controller, and I really wanted to as well, but I really can't use the controller that I have now.

I heard the Nunchuck combo lets you do the classic C-stick smash just by waving the controller in the direction you want. That to me sounds like a comfortable conversion if you dont have a GC controller. If you dont have a nunchuck, you could always PRESS 1!!!

But seriously, GC controller would probably only be important if you do tourneys with BYOC since apparently the wiimote can get mixed signals. I personally plan to try out the nunchuck style first to see if it's practical

GC controller is the way to go. Get one now before Brawl comes out. You don't want to be caught in mad scramble to find one as the release draws near...

From the look of things, and the fact that you can set up your own configuration, I'd give it a try with the Classic controller (if you have one), and if it doesn't work for you, get a new Gamecube controller from Nintendo. I It is all opinion, of course, but my opinion is try the Classic one.

Classic controller may work if you're planning to buy it for Brawl. I had fun with it when I played N64 games and other VC games.

But IMO, if you're too used to the gamecube controller, it's probably best to stick with one unless you can easily get adapted to other controllers well.

Try the wii-mote/nunchuk: if you don't like it, good luck getting a gcn controller.

There are new Platinum Gamecube controllers on amazon.com for $25. I haven't even spent my Christmas money yet so I think I'll buy that.

Case closed.

You must recover!

Just buy a GC controller. They don't cost much, and if you're really excited about the game, and find out that on a Wiimote or classic controller setup it's hard to play, then you'll have to wait...Might as well play it safe and get a GC controller. ;-)
