I'm thinking of getting a Lan adapter for my wii. but i don't know the standard connections for brawl. i know its broadband but will i have any advantage for having a wired connection. I already checked my speeds on my wireless and its 3mbs DOWN/500kbs UP and i checked my speeds on my wired and its 9mbs DOWN/ 1mb UP will those 9mbs give me any advantage as in low lag or will ill be just good off with a 3mbs DOWN.

my father believes its a waste a money and that it will perform just as good as the wireless. and good references or facts to persuade that wired will perform 3x better than the wireless like low lag articles. or will it just be a waste of money for wired.

Your bandwidth speed has very little to do with latency. Wired would be best option. Wireless can bog increase ms lag.

Here's a good way to test.
Start
Run
type: cmd /k ping www.google.com
press OK

look at the average response time. Right now, on a poor wireless connection, I have 25ms. 1 frame (1/60th of a second) is 16.67 ms. I'd be a little bit behind a frame in lag because of my connection. That's with google, if nintendo does a proxy it can get worse. Now if I'm on wired, i'll have something like 21ms.

I'll ping the wireless access point as well
cmd /k ping 192.168.1.1

Average ms = 4ms.

If i were on a wired connection, it would be <1ms and the average would be 0ms. Using wireless instead of wired gives me a 4ms increase in lag.

In your mind!
Wi Fi = Wireless, but actually it seems the question is pretty much answered, some of my parents laptops have Wi Fi connections...

Ive got a wireless connection, and it works great for me. Im able to start a guitar hero match online with my Wii in around less than a minute from main menu to character select.

It really just depends on your wireless connection, Its strange that kine is so good, I live downstairs with one wall being made of brick, hah.

well guitar hero wouldn't lag since its readings are pretty easy. since smash bros is so complex and there is going to be alot going on at once, would having a wired or wireless connection be better.
wireless -2mbs
wired -9mbs

will those acutally make a difference. or will i just be just as good with 2mbs.
