Will the same players who were the best in Melee be the best in Brawl?

It is my belief that current pros will have a significant advantage over current casuals. I've seen pro players who have never touched Pichu, Game & Watch, Mewtwo, Bowser, etc pick up those characters and in their very first match dominate every casual you could throw at them along with many competitive players. The engine will be slightly different in Brawl, but I don't believe transitioning between the two will be nearly as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. If a pro Falcon can pick up Mewtwo and dominate, then I'd say a pro Melee player can easily handle the extra floatiness and speed differences.

Well, I did watch some videos made by people playing Brawl who were excellent in Melee. And they played horrible. I guess pros will start out as n00bs in Brawl. They were better than all the little 8 year old brats playing, though.

Of course, they were good for a reason in Melee. They had good reflexes and mindgames, and they can use those to their advantage in Brawl once they have trained properly.

That is an excellent way to sum things up.

Well it's to be expected under the circumstances. First off, they were using a controller they weren't used to playing smash with. Secondly, they only had 2 minute matches with items that were free for alls sporadically throughout the day. Lastly, they ***** all the casual players. They would have been able to play much more fluidly if they had a solid day of tech practice/discovery in training mode than they did over that 4 day period.

Still, in a game of tight tolerances (seriously, 1/60th of a second for powershielding), I can't imagine substantial tournaments held over wifi.

As to the original post, I can only say that playing melee has made me better at ssb64, so...

They may be, but since Sakurai took out their "wavedashing" and some other advanced techniques, they'll have to cooperate without it.
