You know wht sucked balls...having to leave your Gamecube on all night just to un-lock Mewtwo. I commend all the one of you that actually played 800 VS matches, or actually played those 20 hours. Luckily, the GCN was a durable system that could sustain being left turned on for that period of time. The Wii on the other hand...

Please Sakurai...don't make us un-lock ANYONE in Brawl using that type of method ever again...EVER!

Um, if you read SamuraiPanda's thread about his conspiracy theoracy, then this may not happen. That is, assuming his theory is correct.

And I'm pretty sure Sakurai won't do that to us again.

Haha, Amen to that...but if you plugged in four controllers and left it on you could do it in 1/4 of the time.

My wii has been left on for more than twenty hours? Can you explain what you are talking about?
He was referring to unlocking characters/stages. Remember back in Melee, you needed 20+ hours to unlock Mewtwo in multi-player mode. He was just wondering if we need to do this again for Brawl. I'm betting against it.

Instead of leaving it on for 20 hours...

... why don't you play them?

1-2 hours a day (it isn't that much), and in 10 - 20 days you will have your character.

play some 5 hours a day (holiday season!) and its just 4 days.

Also, don't whine, I got Mewtwo by the 800 VS matches...

i thought that was a cool way to unlock a character. the wii is durable. my friend has left his on for a week. no problem. dont worry. just keep it ventilated and not in a closed area. hell, even the 360 and the ps3 can do that. ventilation is the important part (and for the 360, ventilation for the power adapter is very important)

Actually, the way the Wii works now, it system goes into sleep mode after a little while of no activity, so they could put an unlockable character like this is Brawl... and you'd have to play those hours and not cheat! Bahahahaha! Suckers!

he has said various times that he wants to make the game as good as he can (cause it's the last installment) and i don't think this would be good at all 4 ur wii

But that has nothing to do with the quality of the game. Actually, setting a benchmark for playing a certain amount of hours and almost every player unlocking the character is a testament to how enjoyable the game is.

Also, when did anyone say this would be the last installment? I have not read that from Sakurai anywhere that this would be the final Smash game. And technically he does not even have the right to say it is the last installment if he did say it. So I do not know where you got that from.

I don't ever turn my Wii off, so if i have to keep it on to unlock someone, it won't be an issue.

[btw I unlocked Mewtwo by accident with some friends who played straight until it happened]

Did you not see what I posted above? You cannot do that with the Wii... the Wii will go into sleep mode, and freeze your game... which means the game's internal clock will stop. This means you cannot leave your Wii on and still log hours.

Huh? My Wii is on as i speak, and if i switch to its input channel, it's just the same as if i just put down the Wiimote (aside from the Wiimote turning itself off) My Wii has been off two 2 days since it was released, aside from the time i had to send it in for repairs because it wouldn't take my GC disks.

Right, the console is still on, but the game is paused by the system. You know that screen that comes up for the Wiimote and whether you want to go back to the Wii Console menu? It comes up after you are inactive for a while. This isn't a pause like when you press start in game, it pauses the whole game, internal clock and all.

The only thing that is kept in normal time is the Wii's clock, which knows how long the game was on, but they could easily know now whether the system is receiving input or not. And it could decide to stop the internal game clock.

Thus, it is possible for them to make it impossible to "cheat" the system.

But, if I'm not mistaken, can't you play Smash with the Gamecube controller, thus making this argument void?

You still need a Wiimote to start the game. Plus, we don't know if pausing with a GC controller will be any different than pausing with a Wiimote. Either way, if you leave it inactive long enough, the Wii menu will probably pop up and stop the game.

But, you can still cheat the system. Just let your Wiimote hang from something, like a doorknob or a handle on a drawer. You can point a fan at it and it'll keep spinning and moving, not letting the Wii stop the game.

My Wii was left on for (not joking) 2 straight months because I apparently forgot to turn it off when I beat Twilight Princess, and didn't notice anything until it started making strange sounds that kept me awake at night. True story. Luckily the insides weren't fried, because it was hot as hell when I finally did turn it off.

Well, that's good to know.

I made the same mistake, but it wasn't nearly as long as your little happening. o.o

Hmmm... that is a good point about the Gamecube controller... we'll have to see, won't we?

That also brings up the issue of how to get back to the Wii menu if 4 GC controllers are plugged in...

Oh, crap, I misunderstood. I thought meant the "your wiimote connection has been interrupted" message. I wasn't aware that the entire Wii menu pops up. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Same thing for your second statement. lol.

It should be easy to get back to the Main Menu. EASY. Just because there are four controllers occupying the slots, doesn't mean that the Wii Remote can't turn off the system. It's a WII game, and I'm pretty certain that you'll be able to do everything via Wii Remote if that's the scenario.

No Internet?!?
My TV is just over there, a few feet away from my bed, with my Wii plugged into it. My laptop is on the stool/bench thing that we all sit on when we're playing my Wii, and it's just at the end of my bed.

I'm lying on my bed on my stomach just now typing this, and all I need to do is look up over the top of my laptop and I'll see my TV.

So I could quite easily leave my Wii on during the day, and give my Wiimote a tap once every ten minutes, to keep it from going into sleep mode. And I can go on my laptop and watch TV at the same time. (Plus I have a fridge beside my TV that can hold 6-8 2 Litre bottles).

So anyway, my point is, unlocking a Character by leaving your Wii on is not impossible, actually, it's quite easy.
