Will Melee become a collector's item someday?

Last week I was running maintenance on my old ps2/gamecube/xbox games and consoles to make sure everything was in good shape. While dusting off some of the boxes it hit me, will these games be worth anything someday? As far as my gamecube collection goes I'd say my most "valuable" games are mario sunshine, paper mario: the thousand year door, luigi's mansion and ssbm. Do you guys think that maybe someday ssbm will be worth a lot of money? It might not be anytime soon but perhaps when my hypothetical grandchildren have children?

I see Melee go for at least $50+ at any Retro videogame store in my area. It can go for even more online depending on the quality of the dics/box. I'd say it's pretty collectable as it is right now.

This game seems to be going up in price due to the expanding community and sudden demand as more people are getting into the game. Luckily I was able to secure three copies before it all started happening. After MLG and EVO prices will most likely go up more. Then again there is a possibility of a drop by the time Smash 4 is set for release. Who knows if Melee will still be strong by that point. I sure hope so.. I still think it should be price at maximum $50 dollars for a working copy. Going to the hundreds is just crazy.

I think it will go up in value as time goes on, so don't sell yours!

Pre-Player's Choice/ Pre-Best Seller will definitely go for more, but I used to see Melee on sale at GameStop for like 19.99-29.99, but I don't even think GameStop sells GCN games anymore

Yeah unfortunately they stopped quite a while back. Kind of bummed as I used to buy a lot of controllers from there for cheap however now Wal-Mart has a used games program. I'm not sure if they carry Gamecube but its something to look out for. I haven't visited my local Wal-Marts to see what they have.

Game Craze might help if they are in your area. Not so much controller-wise, but Gamecube games definitely.

Melee is already over $100 on Amazon.
That's like new still wrapped.

You'd think it would sell for cheaper considering it was the best selling GC game. Come to think of it, all the 1st party GC games are super expensive. Your best bet is just local listings, I got a copy off Craigslist for $20

I'd have to agree with this. Casual players or people looking to make fast money, especially without dealing with shipping, are more likely to sell it for less

There are USED copies on Amazon that go for $50+.

Thankfully I traded my friend Call of Duty: Defiance on the DS for a complete copy in excellent condition, I should consider myself lucky!

They are worth something right now though. Price/value also depends on the version(s) you have. If the community grows bigger (which it should) after MLG and EVO then the demand for the game should increase! I have three copies as well but I don't plan on ever letting go of them. Two are original launch copies and the third is player's choice.

At this point, a used Wii is probably cheaper than a copy of Melee, lol. As far as I know, it’s possible to softmod an old Wii so that it plays Melee isos from USB sticks or external HDDs.

Is there a hack to auto-boot Melee from a USB HDD?

Idk about auto-boot, but Dios Mios is a loader for soft-modded Wiis to play backups of GameCube ISOs

Devolution is another GameCube emulator for Homebrew, which is probably less complex than Dios Mios, except you must have had used the actual game disc at least once for the back up you're trying to play (anti-piracy).

To stay on topic, Melee is already pretty pricey on eBay and Amazon, thankfully I still have my very first copy I got with my old (now broken) platinum GameCube.

I have the game, my cube with the box still, and no lie i've had the same two controllers for it since I got it in 2003. Somehow my controllers still work fine. It's great to see everyone still enjoys this, and how popular it still is. It's probably one of the best games ever made, and the replay value with friends is infinite.

I use WiiFlow with DIOS MIOS and I have my Wii set to boot the Homebrew Menu instead of the main Wii Menu. I can control it with a GC controller and WiiFlow saves the last game you select as the default one so after running WiiFlow all I have to do is hit A twice to load Melee (as long as it's the last game I played).

It's the closest thing I've been able to get to auto-booting.
