run it on a GCN just to be sure. it's faster to start up and doesn't have that glitch where when you die, your % will stay up like you're alive.

but as far as I know, there are no gameplay differences

When I play team matches on FoD it tends to lag, I'm not sure if this happens on other stages.

1st serious answer?

the wii runs melee (and most of the other gc games) with a slightly crisper, sharper resolution.

the difference is obvious if you look for it

i don't know if there's any gameplay differences (such as responsiveness) but i seriously doubt it lol

that occurs on GCN as well.

The only practical differences are:

1) You can do two black hole glitches at once on a Wii. It's basically a Gamecube with more RAM, so the second black hole doesn't cause a freeze.

2) It's easier to find component cables for a Wii than a GCN, so it's more practical to output in 480p.

3) If your Wii is softmodded, you can easily run gamecube games with codes. You can also play backups, which allows for custom textures, audio, etc.

I boot my Wii straight into the homebrew channel so there is no hassle involving a Wiimote. However, a gamecube works just as well, especially if your TV does not have a component input.

Well for one, does it have any graphical enhancement?

Load up time reduced?

Too bad I can't use my AR when trying to play with hacks on my Wii. :/

There are no graphical enhancements from the Wii, but 480p output looks crisper than 480i. This is possible on a GCN, but it's generally harder to find the component cables necessary. The difference is regarded as negligible by most.

Load up time, as far as I'm aware, is not reduced. I don't think the two consoles have much difference in DVD read speed.

Why can't you use AR when trying to play hacks on your Wii?

Wii has less lag and is better looking, but takes longer to start the game.
only if you're a noob and haven't hacked your wii by now

i'd have bought component cables for my wii if my dazzle had component inputs.

There is a slight difference. I know because I can FEEL it. Every time I play on a Wii, even if i didn't realize I was on a wii at first, I felt difference in the movement. Can someone confirm if there are frame lags on either console in normal survival.

Probably not the best place to ask this, so if someone can point me to a better place to read up, please do. To hack your Wii, can you do it like with Project M where you just download something onto an SD, put the SD into your Wii, and enjoy? Or do you have to do something more complicated?

This is likely just a placebo effect. The Wii enters "Gamecube mode" when it plays Gamecube games. Functionally, it becomes a Gamecube.

There is no difference in playing on a Wii or GC besides better graphics on the wii. There is definitely no change in gameplay at all.

it's fully soft, so no hardware hacking necessary. everything's done via sd card. use the smash stack exploit + hackmii. if you want AR on your wii i can help you out sometime.

Well, I did buy some component cables for my Wii, it's definetly a big improvement since I have a HD TV outputting at 480p, and my Wii setting are set to EDTV as well, it looks sharper and crisper overall.

As for my AR(Action Replay), every time I boot it up on my GNC it works just fine, but when it comes to the Wii, it simply shows a black screen and resets itself from the caution screen. <_<

Oh, Omega, if you want to run AR, there are easier ways than using an Action Replay disc. There is Action Replay software. Look up GeckoOS mod.

gamecube doesn't require you to use the annoying wii mote to navigate to the gamecube thingy, before you can use the gamecube controller! ;) (seriously. There is a gc controller plugged in, which would perfectly suffice to navigate the first menu, why do we have to make sure the wii mote has batteries in, and the sensor bar is there and everything, when we're not going to use either?)

I didn't know the Wii let you do 2 black hole glitches!

I love the black hole glitch.

Fill it with Ness' PK fire!

Oh, there is? Well I might look it up sometime if I ever get some assistance with this, thanks for the info though, I appreciate it.

The only important thing I ever heard about this was that Fountain didn't lag on the Wii in teams. Never really tested it though so don't shoot me if I'm wrong lol.

It still lags, actually. Only gameplay difference is that you can do two black hole glitches.

I've done 6 black holes at once by myself on a GC with two controllers.
Since when does it freeze up at 2?

Wretched, I haven't tested the black hole glitch in a long time, and I don't have a Gamecube with me at the moment. But I was always under the impression that two black holes would cause the game to freeze. I'll have to test it when I get home.

And everyone else: read the entire thread before posting. It's just common sense. Many of us have addressed the Wiimote issue by pointing out that you can softmod a Wii and allow it to boot to the disc or to the Homebrew Channel when it powers up, and this is a very simple procedure.

GC. The Wii just looks ****ty and reminds me of how stupid nintendo has become.
I would only use a wii for texture hax.

try the black whole glitch on your wii. you'll quickly realize how much more lag melee has on the wii than on the gamebube. i really have no idea why. probably something to do with the wii being a piece of ****. but annnnnyway. i don't think it would ever effect a match. unless it was teams. or something REALLY stupid happened in the match. i just like to use the gamecube because it's a better console.

Why is everyone being stupid. There is no difference. It was established years ago that when the Wii plays a GC game, it cuts processing power to match the GC. This is true for every game including Melee. There is no difference in play. Period.

Are people really making these arguments? "The Wii looks dumb, the GC has a handle, an unhacked Wii takes an extra 15 seconds to start, etc etc."

^ Listen to this man. Gameplay wise, there is no difference.

So I know I'm 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. 6 years late to this thread but honestly the only differences between a gamecube and Wii are the whole wiimote issue that can be fixed through nodding and the fact the Wii can handle 2 black holes. The gamecube aesthetically looks better because it has a handle and all. Its just a matter of personal choice really. They bog can so the same exact thing but the Wii can be nodded for graphics, auto replay, the wiimote issue. So aesthetically a gamecube is easolt better but a Wii is overall better for the pure reason it can be used with hacks.
