Wii U can't play Brawl with pro controller?

I went to my local gamestop and picked up two pro controllers and figured I would have some fun picking up brawl for a bit. Please tell me I'm doing something wrong and I'm mistaken. You have to have a Wii remote to access the Wii menu. OK not a problem I have my Wii sitting next to my Wii U.

Can I not use the Wii U pro controller because I'm technically launching brawl on the Wii software? I hope I'm doing something wrong I really am. After trying to get it to work for almost an hour of synching and unsynching controllers I just plugged in my Wii and compomnent cables and used my gamecube controllers. WTF is the matter with nintendo? I spent 200 dollars on nintendo titles and controllers this weekend and can't play a Wii game with my new controller. Or hopefully I'm wrong.

By the way if anyone lives in palm beach Florida and wants to try out this new project M release I'm down to hack my Wii. I got 3 controllers and a nice samsung 42 inch. Feel free to message me or post here that I'm doing it wrong.

As far as I know, I don't think the Wii U Pro controller works for Wii titles. At least that's what I've been told. :/

The Wii U Pro controller does not work with any Wii software.

wtf is the matter with nintendo...

I wanted to test playing brawl online with the wii u modem and see if it was better than the lagtastic Wii. I couldn't play brawl on the Wii online without being able to count out frame data in real time because it was running so slow and laggy

Yeah online play is definitely frustrating with Brawl. I'm hopping SSB4 will be a big step up from it.
