FIX: I done cracked the case. ^.^

It was the GCT file that got corrupted. I changed my File Patch code from v.4.0 to v.3.5.1, and it works perfectly now. Thanks to all who helped!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm using OS 1.9.1 (which has always worked for me). I used the Waluigi .gct file for the CSS code, played as Waluigi and an Alloy, then the game froze while I was trying to do roll-dodges. So I turned my Wii off. I then tried to load my own very very very beta character (over Cpt Falcon), and it froze at the strap loader screen. I reset my Wii, and it still won't load past the strap screen. I tried deleting my beta character, deleting Chibo's Waluigi .gct, deleting Waluigi, deleting the zakoboy folder in Fighter...nothing works.

Could it be the actual SD card itself thats the problem? Could it be because I tried to load a model over a non-Alloy character? Is there perhaps a hidden file I need to get rid of? Does anyone think that I have a corrupted common5 (or a corrupted anything else, for that matter)?

Try loading through disc channel.
If its normal then its something to do with Gecko.
Isolate the problem please.

Common5. doesn't load custom character screens, only custom pictures. The alloy code is probably still on your gct.

Just a thought...when my Wii initially froze, I was playing as an Alloy on a stage that I put custom music on... Could this mean that it's really my SD card that's the problem? And if the custom music did affect it, could this mean that streaming music on your SD card actually DOES diminish the life of the card??

EDIT: SD card's not dead. Just transferred the files onto a new SD card; still doesn't work. Just spent $40 on an SD card I don't need...

sd cards only cost like 7 or 8$, large corporation companies laugh behind your back that you spent 40$ on an SD card. welcome to the new world...

sounds like you might need to defrag or formt your SD, but i seriously doubt that's the problem.

How far have you reversed inserting new content? Are you undoing what you've done lately back to point in time where you can play brawl with these codes without encountering an error? maybe you gotta undo more stuff you did or something

I've undone all that I've done since it froze. The card stopped working after some model/animation hacks, so I've taken off those. I also deleted all codes I've recently added on the code manager. I don't think it's anything I can really "undo"; I believe something's corrupted.

Now, how do I go about defragging/formt-ing my SD card? I'll try anything at this point.

defragging:

go to My Computer, Right click on your SD>properties, go through the tabs and you'll see defragment now. I don't even know what defragging does exactly.

Formatting is something else, think of formatting as a Supernova on your SD data, everything on your SD will go bye-bye, will never return and you have a brand new SD card at with maximum free space. SO you should backup your SD before you do, but i'm probably sounding as smart as a goldfish right now. perhaps someone can correct any misleading info i have (potentially)

Try deleting your save and downloading a new one. Once my save got screwed up, and everytime I went into the stage select sreen it would freeze (even with all cheats off, no SD card in, loading off disc)

Well actually, here:
First, take out your sd card and run Brawl without any cheats. If it still freezes, that means your save is corrupt. Then delete it and download a complete save, and copy it into your wii

It probably was my custom character, yes, but I already went and deleted it. I try not to use custom CSS, but I need it for the Alloys. The code's not on right now, but guess I'll havta be more careful with custom CSSs from now on. And I haven't edited my common3 since before it froze. The only thing I've done to my common3 is make a sandbag texture. Guess I'll stil try deleting my pf folder.

Just discovered something. I loaded Brawl with all my normal codes except File Patch, and it worked perfectly. I also tried loading Brawl with File Patch on, but I removed my pf folder, and it still froze. This leads me to believe that there's something corrupted with the file patch code itself, or one of my common files is corrupted. I'll try loading Brawl without the common files. Anyone have any thoughts?

If you're NTSC-U, stop using File Replacement. Use File Patch. Otherwise...

I HIGHLY believe your common files aren't doing a thing. Make sure you aren't using an sc_title.pac. It might have something freezing you.

NTSC-U is...European, right? I have the American game. Actually, I just found out that I am using the File Patch code. I don't think that I have an sc_title.pac; I don't even know what that file is.

NTSC-U is USA, PAL is Europe/Australia, NTSC-J is Japan.

Since you ARE using the FPC, go throughout your RSBE folder, and inside look into every folder but pf. System contains common5; no need to look at that either. Info you mostly won't use, so remove everything in there for now. What's the main concern is what's inside Menu and pfmenu2. Report back what you find in there.

If you don't have any 1 of those folders then just skip it.

y'know, i thought NTSC-U was US...forgot, though...

al folder > 213 pictures

rp folder > 3 replays

st folder > one stage (stage builder, im guessing)

menu > common > char_bust_tex > 22 MenSelchrFace files

menu > strap > StrapEn.pac, Controller.pac

None of the files in these folders have been touched in months.

Bingo. Your common3 and common5 are too big (common3.pac is supposed to be 4.82MB or lower, common5.pac should be 11.64MB or lower), removing both will hopefully stop the wii from crashing.
