I really doubt translation is going to be that hard.

Japanese: MARIO!
English: MARIO!
Japanese: -something-
English: READY!?

So why does it take 2 weeks for the Japanese game to come to America?

Think of it.

I think that Japan gets it in... 26 days?
We have to wait 40 days, now!

Don't you see a big difference?

Not complaining. All I wanna know is why it takes a whole extra Buncha days to get from Japan to America.
(At least it wasn't delayed again...)

Because its impossible to ship SSBB from Japan to America in the same time it takes Japan to Ship to the Rest of Japan? and dont forget the voices and stuff...

What do you think about all the trophies, stickers, event match descriptions and all that? There's a lot more to translate than what you say there.

And be glad you don't live in Europe, we probably have to wait even longer!

The game is made in Japan and it will be quicker to ship it throughout Japan then shipping it to America.

There's also text. Nate has proven that he does the Dojo updates with photoshop. The game's translation is quite obviously not finished as far as text goes. When you think about how many trophies and stickers there are, that's a lot of translating to be done.
If anything, I'm surprised it's done so fast!

You're doing text and voice translation. Think about it. There's the 200+ trophies that need to be translated, the entire Wi-fi Mode, All the options, all of the event mode descriptions, Snake's conversations, the Arwing conversations, etc.

This game has at least 100 people working on it. I doubt they couldn't translate it all in less than a week, if they tried.

Oh, yes. Voices.

"HAAAH! STRYYYKE! FWAAA!!! AHHHHH!!!"

... This is Nintendo we're talking about.
Have you forgotten that a number of characters will have speaking parts? Pit and Meta Knight are the only ones we know for sure that will have dialog.

Voice acting. Trophies. Possible censoring. There's tons of stuff.

What's even weirder is the fact that PAL doesn't even have a release date yet. Seriously, what? It comes out less than a month in Japan and yet we have nothing. Am I just supposed to check the game store every day until I see a copy conveniently lying there?

I guess. Although, doesn't the PAL version have at least six languages? Not to mention that encoding for different regions is supposedly a time eater.

You guys are forgetting about Australia.

They speak English, just like the US and Canada, and they get it after Europe.

if you want to get it in 37-38 days get a job at eb games, or best buy or walmart and steal,or buy it early. And trust me the people at eb wont care lol, they will support you, and get it themselves to.

A game with as much text to translate as a smash game will take a long time, especially with languages as different as Japanese and English. Not to mention theres so many things that just don't translate from Japanese to English. So a lot of stuff is changed, not to mention there is always key differences in the games. So they might add or take away a lot of things. :p

I used to think this way, but I really doubt translation has anything to do with it now.

I might be wrong, but listen to all the trailers and audio clips we've been given. The audio's recorded already, and I assume the text is too.

40 days is surely a painfully long time to wait, but look at the bright side. Once it comes out in Japan, we will quickly learn EVERYTHING that there is to know. All these "predictions" and theories will finally be put to rest.
Hopefully, the Dojo hasn't revealed TOO much of the game, so there will be some stuff left to surprise us.

I feel very sorry for them. I wonder why they get stuff so late. They speak English just like us in North America, so why not just give them our version of the game or a version edited slightly to meet their particular needs?

Edit: I'm very sorry for the double post.

Maybe it's because Austrailia gets things before them and they're jealous. (It's already 2008 over there)

It makes me laugh when I think about how LITTLE time two week is. And it also makes me smile when I think about how FEW days are left before the game is released to us.

The poor Europeans are the ones who should complain. Localization owns Europe.

They have as much translators for every language, they translate directly from Japanese. If it takes two weeks for just English, PAL has FIVE languages, one could even say that it's 10 weeks after the *** release. Hell, I would be happy with that.

Just the fact there's not even a slight hint of a release date is just unacceptable. They could've even said March/April 2008 and it would've been fine.

Would be nice if someone who's in game development could come on and answer possible reasons, though! XD I'm sure curious. Maybe I'll mail a game company. :\

(Or Google it or something, I wonder if anyone's tried that)

They've also got to translate the instruction manual and box art, and then they have to actually produce a large quantity of the games before they ship to a market MUCH larger than the Japanese market.

Just to clear something up;
Don't get your hopes up for a Q1 Europe release. It's confirmed NOT to be released in Q1 (Jan/Feb/Mar). We're hoping for Q2 (Apr/May/Jun), but it might be Q3 (Jul/Aug/Sep).

It's not just translating and re-dubbing; they have to make enough copies to release in the US. Think about it; we're a WHOLE lot bigger than Japan simply because of geography. The number of units that could satisfy Japan would be a drop in the bucket here.

Plus, they'd have to import all those copies to the US and distribute them.

So it's a matter of logistics.

I'm an Australian, you guys are making us sound sooo inferior. Also, we're likely to get it BEFORE Europe, seeing as all recent Nintendo games have been coming out here about a month before Europe. Pokemon, Mario Galaxy, Corruption, etc...

Translation of Trophies and Stickers, Voices, the name of every playable character and enemy in Subspace Emissary, Event Matches, Options, Wi-fi, Region Coding, Production of the translated version, shipping of the translated version, and probably more.

So as you can see, there's ALOT to do. Two weeks is FAST!

You're complaining about waiting 2 weeks? You must be one of those people that are mad the Dojo isn't giving us updates this week.

I'm glad we're getting this game at all, since there are plenty of Japanese games that never hit American shores. And 2 weeks is nothing. Europe's launch date hasn't even been announced, and Australia and South America are just plain screwed.

Besides, you do realize that they have to do s\Snake's codec conversations, Sonic, and anybody else that talks? Then there are the probably 300+ trophies we'll be seeing, as well as the menus and everything. Most of that stuff is already done anyway.

If anything, I always thought Japan got it first because since they made it, they deserve to play it before us.

Grow up.

How are we making you sound inferior?

Saying "oh man sucks for them" seems more like we're on the same level rather than
"Hahaha those silly australians!!"
